Thanks for all of your replies, I'm learning through the discussion.
Bird and Tom questioned whether I was in high gear...I thought I was but
maybe I was mistaken...gonna check that out next time I'm in the seat.
Tony, Tom and TresCrows talked about the floor pedal (TresCorw
said "The lever on the floor is not a throttle!"), and I suspect that may
have contributed to the problem. TimCom mentioned the possibility of
bad fuel, which is still a possibilty, yet another thing to check. I am sure
that it wasn't either the parking brake or mistakenly being in 2WD.

Thanks again for all of your input...I'll do some checking and see what I find.

Bill, the reason I mentioned the high range vs. low range was because of my experience with my tractors (same thing happened with both a B7100 and a B2710). As has been stated, the hydro pedal is not a throttle. If you went into something too hard or fast (pedal down pretty far), in either range, you could stall the engine. But I found that if you went in gently and slowly pressed the pedal down, in high range, you would never stall the engine, but also might just sit there without the wheels turning. However, if you did the same thing in low range, you would either go or spin the wheels. The only time I found in low range that the tractors would not spin the wheels was when I got the ripper teeth on the box blade hooked under a big root, then tried to raise the 3-point; i.e., putting maximum down pressure on the rear tires thereby getting maximum traction. Only in that situation could I get the same result as in high range; i.e., not stall the engine and not spin the wheels.

I THINK u have a problem! my 2400 will just keep going, i may run out of traction but the wheels will keep spinning. have u checked the fluids? might u be low in trans. fluid?

Well after considering this thread I have decided there might not be a problem. I am not poking fun at our tractor friend either. I suspect he has the tractor in high range and the throttle set to low and he is instictively mashing on the hydro pedal as if it were an accelerator pedal instead of--INSTEAD of-- letting up on the hydro pedal, giving the tractor more throttle with the hand throttle and shifting into low range. If his B2400 is running at 2200 RPM and in low range and it stops forward movement and the wheels are NOT spinning or the engine not stalling then something is very wrong with that unit.
I suggest you get on the unit, warm it up, put it in 4WD, increase the hand throttle to 2200 RPM and move into that snow pile again! I can put my tractor against a tree in low range at 1800 to 2200 RPM and all wheels will spin even if they got good traction or the engine will load up and stumble and you will see dark smoke (not a good thing to load the engine like that). TresCrow/J,

I think you are probably right! I still have not had a chance to get out there
and apply what I've learned on this thread, but soon will. My previous tractor
was a Mitsubishi MT372 and the foot pedal was the throttle. I've read a lot
of threads on TBN in the past few months, but hadn't read about how the
operating characteristics of the hydro pedal. I am sure I was mashing it,
just like you described! The good news is that I think there is a high likelihood
that this is the problem...and it is something very easy to fix (i.e., operator
eduation).

Thanks, guys.
