I am a new tractor owner of 10 months and wish to thank the many contributors to this forum. My learning curve has really advanced plus my confidence, safety and enjoyment are hard to measure. I bought my 2400 used from the local dealer last Nov. and I have put about 160 hrs on the meter for a total of 1490. The original owner was a landscaper and apparently took good care of his equipment. Well.....now to the problem. When I try to start the tractor, the engine will turn over for about a second and then stop. I let it rest a few seconds and start bumping the key every few seconds. Usually this method will finally turn the engine enough to start. I have read some posts about 2400's and starting problems and have tried most solutions including the installation of a low voltage relay to the solenoid as recommended by Kubmech and others. Didn't work. I have also cleaned the battery terminals plus the ground at the frame. The old battery went South so I have installed a new battery. Nothing has helped and I'm thinking the problem must lie with the solenoid or (ohhh no) the starter. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I have never tested or changed a solenoid or a starter before. Should either turn out to be a problem, I am willing to try. Heck if it's already broke, could I break it more? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Your help would be appreciated!

If the starter is not spinning then it may have a dead spot on it. I would price a new starter and also check what getting it overhauled would cost.

Have you checked all the wire connections to the solenoid and the starter? It could be a loose wire at the solenoid that heats up and loses contact. If you know what you are doing, you can bypass the starting circuit with a jumper to the starter, but this can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. Otherwise, take the starter off and take it to an autoelectric rebuilder and have it checked out. But before doing so, call your Kubota dealer and find out what a new starter motor costs. I had to replace the alternator on my F2400 and it was cheaper to buy a new one from the delaer thanto have mine rebuilt. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Same problem with my B1700. It could be anything listed, but I found that I had to replace both the positive and negative cables as they were just worn out and wouldn't carry the load to the starter. I was bumping the key like that for a long time as well. Good luck..
