Kubota L2800 HST with loader
I have an oportunity to buy a 2001 Kubota B2410 from a dealer for $8500. It is a 2001 model with 220 or so hours on it, FEL, hydrostatic transmission, and 4wd. It appears to be in good shape. I also have an opportunity to buy a L2800 from an individual for $10500. It is a 2005 or 2006 model with around 50 hours on it and includes all the features listed above. It also comes with a 5 ft. box blade and a 5ft rotary mower for $10500.

I plan on using the tractor to mow grass between pine trees in the 3 or so acres behind my house, to plow food plots, and to occasionally move dirt and brush piles with the FEL.

Which tractor would best suit my needs? Is a 4hp jump significant? Which is a better deal?

More significant than the 4HP jump in the gross power is the 7HP jump in PTO output. The PTO will be more instrumental in running that mower than the engine HP. The L2800 is a bit larger and heavier. How does that play into how you will use it? The heavier the tractor the more traction it will have when working and the less lawn friendly it becomes.

Also consider that the L2800 has about $1500 worth of implements in the package so the tractor is really only $500 more than the B2410 and has 170 fewer hours on it.

From what you have described, I would go with the L2800. I use my tractor very similarly to what you plan to with the exception of the food plots at the moment. I purchased an L3700SU and have been very pleased with it. My dealer had suggested for my needs on the low end, a B3200 or an L2800 and on the higher end an L3400. He mentioned the L3700SU would be similar to the L3400 but was a bit lower in price and had some upgrades but otherwise was the same as the L3400.

To me it's a no brainer....choose the L2800. Nice little tractor.

I would say that for the moving dirt and brush piles the L2800 wins hands down. However!!! For mowing between pine trees and other objects the B2400 would do a lot better. Also depends how close the trees are. I would decide on which one of the tasks you have to perform more. Is it 80% mowing and a little brush and dirt or half and half? Maintaining and doing minor landscaping work on 3 acres is well within the reach of the B2400 if you are moving many dump-truckloads of dirt and have to clear that 3 acres then the L2800 is better.

That does sound like a very good price for that L2800 tho. May be that could be a major deciding factor too.

As others have stated you need to evaluate what is best for your situation.

For me it would be a no-brainer...the 2800 hands down.

well. They sold the 2410 and my friend was off on the hours. The has 459 hours. that is still not too bad for number of hours, is it? Another downside is that the L has turf tires. I would prefer R4's but I could live with the turfs.

I would take the L over the B anytime for those kinds of uses, unless for some reason it won't fit between your trees in which case your trees are too close anyway. The turf tires would not be my choice, but a lot of people use and like them. They certainly would not be a deal breaker for me.

My buddy and I settled on a price and I will be picking up my new to me L2800 HST with loader tomorrow or Saturday! It has 460 hours and comes witha 5 ft. rotary mower and box blade. I can't wait. I have gone over to his house three different times to test drive it. I didn't want to leave today!

I don't think you'll be disappointed that you went with the L over the B. The B is a nice tractor, but if you went that route, every time you tried to do something it couldn't handle, you would wonder if the L would have.
