Hi all!
I am new to this forum and greatly appreciate the information that is contained in these discussions. I have narrowed my search down to most likely a B2410 with a HST/4WD/FEL and 60MMM. One of the local dealers here in Orlando has a B2410HSDB, which the "b" at the end denotes the option of turning the front wheels faster when they exceed 35 degrees of turning, or at least so says this brochure. I have a few questions about this if anyone has the time to comment.
This has got to involve more moving parts inside the tractor, so how does this affect reliability? I am hesitant to complicate things anymore than need be (no Rube Goldberg contraptions please) and would like to keep it simple. If this speeding up the front wheels makes a large difference in the turning radius, I might consider it. If someone has one of these, I'd appreciate any feedback.
Finally, this tractor sits outside on the dealer's lot. While I am sure the machine is somewhat designed for this, no tractor of mine will sit in the rain, hence this is another negative mark on this particular machine imo (it rains a lot here).
If it matters any, I do live in Orlando, FL. What this means for landscape is I have sand and grass. No hills, no rocks or clay...just flat land, except where the dogs have dug holes chasing moles in the yard and it has grown back (Box blade will fix I hope)
Thank you ahead of time for any input and your time.

Regards,
Frank

Frank,

Welcome! That "B" refers to "Bi-Speed" steering. This has been discussed from time to time here. I know others have questioned the reliabilty (more parts=more possible problems), but I think the concensus was that very few problems were encountered. Do a search for "bi-speed" and there are quite a few threads.

My B2400 sits in a heated garage, and you're right, they are designed to be left outside, but if you have the room... Besides, no need to fade everything (they should make a sunscreen for plastic /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif).

Best of luck to you! The search is part of the "experience".

Frank, you will love the B2410. My traactor has the tight turn option and it really does not reduce the realiability it's just a brake use control. However, I don't use it unless absolutely necesary since it really will leave traction marks on wet grass. It does reduce the turn. By the way, I probably get at least as much rain as you do.

My tractor does spend a lot of time outside. It will not really hurt it. Mind you, I do put it in the garage sometimes but I don't baby it and mine did also sit on the dealers lot for three months before I bought it and it's like it never happened. The little guys are tough and well made.

Good luck, now go and make a deal. By the way, I paid $16,100 with the LA352 and the 60MMM.

All,
Thank you for the feedback. I've not found anything all that negative on TBN or from local dealers against the Bi-speed option, so it might be nice to have. One of the better local dealers down here mentioned that he might have one in a crate still and wondered if I'd be interested in it. Let's see, one that has not sat out in the rain for 3+ months, is at a good price imo (16,400 with FEL and 60MMM on a B model) and the dealer is somewhat local..... Think I've found my tractor...

We'll see.

Thanks again,
Frank

as u already undersatand the "b" designation no need to re state. if u think u can use it it won't be a problem. just understand that 4wd has a nack of tearing up your ground a tad more than when in 2 wd and i do beleive bi-speed will enhance that ground tearing effect. u will love the tractor . i have a b2400 , and mine is used in a lot worse conditions than u will encounter.see attchment.

What is all that white stuff? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Frost on the ground is all we get to see every year or two, so I don't think mine will encounter anything like that. The tearing up the lawn is a concern and was hoping the Bi-speed would alleviate that somewhat from the posts I have read. Well in any case, it can't do any more damage to the lawn than the dogs do chasing moles. Thanks for the feedback nice picture of your Bota!

Frank

Tractor looks good with the white background. I was using my 2410 to clear some of the brush and open up a nice path to my creek side.

Boy it is fun :)

Hi Frank:

And thanks for the welcome. I have been learning a lot about compacts here for a while. And it was with MrtP's advise that I got my 2410.

As for work being play, please do not let my wife know. I am claiming a great victory. We just built our dream house and now I am having a ball designing the landscape around it.

And ofcourse I am well prepared for the white stuff if and when it arrives.
