Looking at buying one of these as it seems small enough to be maneuverable for cleaning run-ins and has the mid-pto so it can be used as a mower on our roughly 17 acres of pasture.
Can this machine really do all of this?
A 1,600 pound bare weight tractor is fine for cleaning stalls.
It is unsuitable for demanding general farm tasks on 17 acres of fields. A 3,600 to 4,000 pound bare weight tractor, such as the Kubota MX series or deluxe 'Grand L' series (
L3560 through
L6060) is the usual recommendation for around 20 acres of ground. Too large, however, to work in a barn.
Can this machine really do all of this?
NO.
Most tractors under 3,000 pounds bare weight operate in residential or hobby farm applications on one to ten
flat acres.
Selling a used tractor is easy. Selling multiple light implements in order to buy heavier, wider implements for a new, heavier tractor requires a lot of time. Depreciation on implements is worse than depreciation on a tractor.
When considering a tractor purchase bare tractor weight first, tractor horsepower second, rear axle width third, rear wheel/tire ballast fourth.
