I started purchasing the various materials needed for changing the transmission/hydraulic fluid in my tractor (2006 - B2630) and decided to use non Kubota oil and filters. I ended up purchasing udt compatible NAPA oil and two Napa filters. The person at NAPA that looked up what kind of filters I needed said the book listed three of them - hydraulic, transmission and one that he said was a suction filter. He stocked the first two, which are identical, but not the third. I ended up buying two of the model he stocked in case I needed to change both.

I have a couple of questions.

1. Does it sound right that there are two of the same filters that need to be replaced? I looked at the tractor and I see two filters underneath the rear end, but one is blue and one is dark gray or black. The one farther back is positioned transversely to the direction of the tractor and the one a bit farther forward and on the other side is positioned parallel to the direction of the tractor. I am not sure if they are the same and just colored differently. They look about the same size. I ask, because I have the manual and all the wording refers to filter, not filters.

2. Where is this third filter that he mentioned (the suction filter) and do I need to change that one too?

3. If I need to also change the suction filter, can I do so later after I change the oil without spilling all the new stuff all over the place?

FWIW, I ended up spending about $95 for the two filters, four gallons of udt compatible fluid and five quarts of front SAE90 gear oil and a funnel.

Thanks in advance.

Based on my B3030, I would think that you have only 2 filters for the hydraulics. One for the tranny and one for the implements. The tranny one on mine is perpendicular to the tractor; the other is parallel--it's bottom faces forward.
Good luck

AStanton - thanks for your input.

I removed both filters and one seems to match the replacements I bought and one doesn't, just as I suspected. I called NAPA back and they agreed that I needed a different filter, one that was 4.8 inches long versus the 4 inch long one they first sold me. Back to NAPA tomorrow morning to get it. Argh. I suppose its comes with the territory when you dont go to the Kubota dealer.

I'm thinking that the 3rd filter or suction filter on your tractor might be a strainer. My BX25 has one; my B3030 doesn't. This filter you don't replace. You take it apart; clean it; then put it back.
Isn't owning tractors fun?

The HST tractors have 2 DIFFERENT filters.
The regular hydrarulic filter on the RH side is a suction type of filter and the HST filter on the LH side is a heavier filter. It is also made differently. Do not try to interchange these filters.

I agree. In my B7800 manual it is referred to as the "Transmission Strainer". It is located at the suction line intake.

FYI - The NAPA (Wix) filters metal casings are definitely not as strong/thick as the Kubota filters and one of the NAPA filters had a slightly smaller outside diameter than the Kubota filters. The seals for the Kubota filters are more integrated and seem better as well. It leads me to belieive the Kubota filters are better.

I am glad I bought the funnel. Gotta have one with a flexible tube extention for this job.

You definitely need a funnel like that when they give you a fill opening the size of a dime and mounted under the back of your seat.
