Hello All,

I have a B2710 with R4's all around. My fronts are in pretty poor shape with cracking sidewalls and not much tread left.

There is a set of R1 tires, new, on rims for $200 which are size

7-12
tires size is 180/85D12
part number BR8707

Now, I have seen some posts regarding many different things with circumferance, axle to ground, ride height, etc.

My question is, can I run these tires and rims with my R4 rears without damage? Has anyone tried this combo? How is the price?

Thanks for any thoughts.

btw, the rears are 12.4x16 R4.

I would say no! The reason is the tread deth enters into play here on soft ground and it would throw the lead lag ratio off.

Art,

Thanks for the input. I sort of figured new fronts would be a bit bigger than the worn rears. But, I figured the sinkage would compensate for a bit of that making the system good enough.

Anyone else have input?

Basically...same as Art's comments. Plus, R-1's have greater traction then R-4's...I think you'd end up damaging your front axle...

I broke the rear u-joint on the front axle doing that.

I had a B8200HSTD, the forerunner to the B2710. It had turfs. I put R4 on the rear, till I could afford to finish with R4 on the front. Seemed to work ok, till I heard a clunking. fortunately, it was just the front driveline u-joint, and not the front axle...

Your B2710 runs same size tires and rims as that B8200 did. If you can run in 2wd till you replace the rear tires, it would be ok. But not if you use 4x4...

no you can not missmatch tires.because if you do as said youll tear something up.if you want R1s them you must buy all new rims for R1s.

Hello All,

I just put new turfs on my B2710, they were only $90 each mounted. I wouldn't expect R4s to be much difference in price than turfs. Have you considered buying new tires?

Wow, lots of people saying no, no, no!

I guess I will take the TBN feedback seriously, although for $200 bucks I thought new tires with rims was a bargain.

I certainly would not have considered mixing R1 and Turf, but I figured R4 and R1 would be a tolerable mix. We have loam everywhere, and my tractor never sees pavement.

I use it with a mmm, firewood hauler, snowblower, and FEL work on occasion.

However, unless people start being more positive, I will leave them alson.

Anyone interested in R1's with rims?

As I mentioned, use it in 2wd till you get new R1 back tires...

When I put the new R4's on my old Kubota about 10 years ago, they were about $750, on new rims(my old turf rims were too wide for R1 or R4 tires). Guessing R1's would be similar price.

You can "mismatch" tires as in Ag with Industrial with Turf if you get the right size. We have run a Massey Ferguson that way since it was bought new in 1986. It is on its second set of tires. We have run it in 4WD a LOT and run it between farms on the highway though in 2WD. We have had no problems.

Whether your proposed plan will work or not will depend on the rolling circumference.
