I'm with you on the gear shift. FEL loader work you might save some time, but mowing i'd have to argue that point. If any time is saved it would be minimal. I know I am in the minority here on this subject. Wondering if anyone has actually put these tractors on a dyno? Bet there would be a bigger HP difference than the "estimated" hp listed in the manuals. Grew up on a gear shift and have operated the hydros and the hp difference is definatley there. Just my opinion on the subject.

Okay, here is more info on the 2710. It has about 500 hours on it, and it is a '99 model. I did learn that it has been used as a rental unit. Should I avoid buying this because it is a rental?

I think some folks would, simply because of the reputation of renters abusing equipment, but it wouldn't deter me if I had inspected it, was satisfied with the condition I found, knew or had reason to believe, the dealer had taken proper care of it, serviced it properly, etc. Just my personal opinion, of course.

If they can produce good service records I'd say go for it. But like stated before check everything out and beware of fresh paint. See what kind of warranty they'll give.

Well, I went and checked it out today. I wasn't impressed with it at all. The backhoe was a very small bush hog brand. It simply looked worn out. I couldn't belive it was a '99 with less than 500 hours on it. Oh well, maybe next time! Thanks for all of the input you guys offered.
