I am approaching 50 hours and am going to do the service myself. What would the engine oil filter and transmission oil filter would cost? What would the engine oil and transmission fluid cost? If I am reading the manual right that is all that needs to be changed at 50 hours. Correct? I am going to buy Kubota oil and filters for warranty issues. What should this cost me to buy from my dealer? Price range?

Thanks,
David

Tractorteen,

I don't have the numbers right in front of me at this time, but when I did my 50 hour service on the 2910 the cost was about $90 for all filters, Kubota UDT, and Case 30wt oil. You only need a 5 gallon pail of hydro fluid.

I also changed out the fluid in the front axle.

If price is a concern, you can get similar spec hydraulic fluid at TSC or Sams for quite a bit less. Not a recommendation, but just a possibility.

Fishman...what was the 30 wt oil for? I don't recall needing it for my b2910... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Answer is probably for an unrelated use... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The manual reads that I would need to use 40Wt because of the climate in Virginia. Correct?? Do I need to buy a whole case of oil?

SIR,
i changed mine at 50hours,(my post on page 4, 7-01-03) the cost
of 10gallons of UDT, and the engine oil filter at the KUBOTA dealer
was $106.00. i bought 2 gallons of SHELL ROTELLA at WALMART.
this is not a difficult job to do. it just takes a little time, and the
next time i do it, it will be easier.

That got my attention! Because I was using Shell Rotella deisel 15w-40 and thought I remembered that was all I needed to use here in PA year round.

I checked my manual and it calls for 10W-40 OR 10W-30 across the temperature range...Actually no mention of using straight 40W at all.

Anyway, since 15W-40 is what is available, that is what I am using, and it seems like it is OK...

You don't need to buy a whole case of oil. It takes less than a gallon per change. I bought a box of 6 gallons myself, but that was because it was cheap at Sam's club. Doesn't take long to put 50 hours on anyway, and I change the oil and filter every fifty hours...makes me feel good...probably not necessary...but oil is cheap...filters were cheap...now cost as much as the oil... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Henro,

I am kind of confused on your post. I know the manual doesn't say to use 40Wt in Virginia. I figured that since in the Winter it gets below 32 degrees that I should use 40Wt because that is what the manual says to do. I plan on using Rotella T Synthetic because I have heard a lot of people use. Is the synthetic better than the regular? What could I expect to pay for a gallon of Rotella T Synthetic?

Thanks,
Dave

The Rotella 5w-40 is or was very recently on sale at Wal Mart--aka Walley World--for 12.85 per gallon. I think you would be fine with the dino oil version of Shell Rotella (15w-40) at hardly 6 or 7 dollars a gallon. Hurry and get some. J

Tractorteen,

What I tried to say was the manual I have makes no mention of using 40wt oil in the engine whatsoever.

10W-40 is not the same as 40W. SAE30 (30W) is the heaviest oil my manual recommends for the B2910, and that is for temps above 77F.

Use the 15W-40 and you will not have to worry about temperature ranges. This one oil is good for all temp ranges.

Make sure you get the stuff that is rated for diesel applications.

I change oil/filter every 50 hours so I am satisfied with using the standard Rotella T oil, rather than the synthetic...
