B2910 wouldn't start after running for 2 hrs.

I had a first time experience today. I was running my B2910 steady for about 2 hrs this morning, and I shut it down for about 1 minute to get a drink of water. When I came back, it wouldn't start. It cranked over normally, and usually starts after just a couple of revs, but it acted like it was flooded, or vapor locked. It wasn't running hot...just barely above cool, like normal, and the battery is good, etc. I walked away from it for about 15 minutes, and looked at the manual, etc., to see what I should check. Finding nothing obvious, I cranked it again, and this time held the starter for about 10 seconds, and it finally coughed and belched some black smoke, and started up. It's a 2002, with about 560 hrs., and I did the 550 maintenance about a month ago...including cleaning the fuel filter.

Anyone have some ideas of what I should check? With Winter coming up, I'd rather fix it now, than have something fail during cold weather.

hummm...we always let the Kubota idle for at least a minute before I shut it off. Also other than recommending you advance the throttle lever half way next time you start I'm stumped for personal experience with that problem. I'm assuming you're getting good spin because the battery is good etc.

btw I'd never shut it down for a minute away time...maybe 10 minutes.

I've had a bit of trouble restarting if I let it set in the 10-15 minute time zone. Like it's not still warm, but not cooled off. But that's just a bit of extra cranking. Normally it starts within about 1 second, it might take 3-4 seconds on rare occasions.

Were you low on fuel? Maybe you briefly starved the fuel line, first time you cranked it was repriming lines. When you came back out it had fuel in the line and started.

I had plenty of fuel. I filled the tank before I started working, and it was probably still 90% full when I noticed this Quirk. The fuel was fresh...just purchased a week ago. I replaced the fuel filter at 500 hours, and there was little or no dirt in the filter at that time. It really acted like the engine was flooded. This tractor usually starts within just a second or two...warm or cold, so this was unexpected.

I have a B7610 thats been doing something like yours for a year or more.I have just sorta learned to live with it.
I can run mine for a hour or so ,cut it off and it wont start until something to do with the fuel shutoff or fuel supply cools down.Always starts right up when cold.So now when I'm using the tractor and my phone rings I just get off the tractor and go far enough away so I can hear.I don't cut it off until I'm finished.Mine only has 220 hrs. and is a 2006.
I talked to a Kabuta Mochanic a while back and he said its a fuel issue.Its a relay thats under the dash or a fuel shutoff.And until what ever it is cools down it aint going to start no matter how much you crank the thing.Before it started doing this when you would cut the switch off about 10 seconds latter you would hear a click sound.It doesn't do that now ,so thats a clue.That is some kind of relay shutting something off I guess?So that is probably my problem and maybe yours?I'II just live with it until I can figure out how to fix it.Don't want to haul it to my stealer to leave for 2-3 weeks and pay out 400-500 hundred fo a $10.00 relay...

Possibly the fuel solenoid. They have two coils in them, first one is the pick or primary, this pulls the arm back then it switches to the hold once the engine starts. That's why they have three wires. Pick, Hold and Ground. The current draw is high on the primary because of the added power to pull the arm on the injection pump. It may be the pick winding is what's going bad because it stays running one it starts..

Just my 2 cents before the gubment takes it.

The Fuel solenoid idea makes sense. I'll have to check that out. I've got a Kubota shop manual, and complete parts breakdown, so this should be something fairly easy to check on. I should have some time next week to play around with this. Thanks for the ideas.

If you find out where this solenoid is located and how to test it pass it on.I'd like to get this fixed if possible.The Mechanic I talked to at a Nursery show said it sounded like a solenoid problem...

It's near the injection pump on the side of the engine below the intake manifold. It will either have an arm that pulls a lever on the pump or it will be mounted directly to the pump. it will have 3 wires going to it.
