Newbie here with a brand new tractor... the temp outside was 36 degrees and I was moving firewood from the backyard to the house. I watched the temperature gauge and noticed that it only moved a little bit, in fact it was still barely above "Cold" all through the job. I'm guessing this isn't normal. I would have expected it to move into a range similar to a car. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance.

How long was it running? These tractors have small engines and lots of coolant. (In comparison to a car)

About an hour.

My B7800 rarely gets above the "C"; only when working the snowblower real hard (and then it just barely gets above the "C" - that's when I get really warm air rather than just slightly warm air from the cab heater). I did get it 1/2 way up the gauge once - and I did it deliberately to check the gauge - by not cleaning the grill, radiator and sidescreens of chaff while using the rotary cutter. Cleaned the screens and it went back to "C" again. These little engines seem to run cool.

I have a B7800 which is about the same thing as a B2920. In the winter my temperature gauge barely moves enough to notice. I'm not working the tractor that hard in the winter. Mostly moving snow with the FEL in the winter. That's not hard work for a tractor. In the summer using my 72" RFM the gauge will climb to a bit less than the quarter point on a hot summer day. If I mow really thick stuff with the rotary cutter on a hot summer day the gauge will sometimes reach the halfway point. Hope this helps.

To test the temper gauge try a second thermometer, a infer red pointed at the hose going to the radiator will do. If you find the engine is running cool, block off the radiator to get the engine in the correct range. Running the engine too cool is not the best thing.

Your tractor seems to be normal for how these operate in cold weather. When it's warm outside it will normally be about a centimeter above the Cold line.

It's normal. A lot of us thought our temp gauges didn't work when we first got our B2x20 tractors. I have to run my at full throttle for a while in summer or winter to get the gauge to move much off the "C". And as someone else noted, when mowing leaves my grills all got covered up and then the gauge may have made it half way. I think most of us newbie's think it is broken, because if you break it in, by not running full throttle the temp gauge will not move much.

Welcome to the club ! :)

Welcome! I have a 2620 and the temp gauge gets maybe 1/2 inch above C when I am running at 2100 using the snow blower. Yours sounds normal! Enjoy the ride!
