I'd like a plow to use occasionally for the small garden I have, put in a food plot, and random lawn renovation. My owner's manual suggests a 1 bottom (14") plow, but the only used ones that show up around me are for much smaller tractors, many along the lawn tractor category. I do see quite a few 2 bottom plows (usually 12") show up for good prices. Will this tractor handle that OK?

Some folks say that 20 HP per bottom is necessary. The other factors are soil type, tire type, 4WD, and so forth so the question about handling a two bottom plow is hard to answer.

You could always convert a two bottom to a one bottom if it doesn't work out.

I've got a B2630, R-4's (not loaded) and a loader on the front. I've got a Ferguson single bottom plow which has the extra deep 16" bottom. It pulls nicely for me in soil which is on the sandy side. I'm plowing about 8" deep, and I have to use the diff. lock occasionally. I've wondered myself about pulling a 2 bottom 12" plow. I think I'll be happier plowing deeper when I'm turning over my winter rye. These small Kubotas don't lack for power - it's the weight of the tractor that is the biggest issue.

There is a YouTube video of somebody pulling a 2 bottom with a New Holland about your size. He does okay, but it looks like he's working pretty good. A bunch videos of a kid with a larger kubota, but the plow isn't set up very good. He doesn't really have both bottoms in the ground properly - just the front one.

Thanks, guys. I had thought about buying a 2-bottom, and converting it. Maybe that's the path I'll take.

If it's any help to you, my 2800/3400 manual says I can use either a 2 x 12 or a 1 x 16 plow. Your hp is the same or better than a 2800, so you should be ok. Tough ground may be another story however.
