B3030 with BH75 or BH80-X Clearance?

For useful data.

I have a 3030 with a Woods 80x in New England which I use as a forest tractor on steep hills. Never had any problem with clearance. In fact, on hills, the more weight down low the happier I am.

From my experience the concerns voiced in the OP, while understandable, aren't real.

Thanks Charlesaf3,
Forget my concerns and look at the numbers for ground clearance.
As stated before by different people, they have had the BH80-x with no issues for their applications.
I need ground clearance on my Backhoe due to the rocky yard, I'm not talking about an occasional rock here and there, I'm talking about a field of potatoes (rocks) that I need to work/play with.

> Totally agree with your statement, in fact, I would recommend the BH80-x in your case if your yard is not like mine and you don't need the high ground clearance.

Thanks,
Rick

I don't have quite the same situation with rocks, though I do have them. But I do have a similar situation with stumps. And approach angles are an issue everywhere. For whatever reason I've had little to no issue. But I can certainly see how it could happen.

My hoe clearance is about 14" at the main boom pivot. I often touch
ground when moving dirt and rocks in tight quarters. I also have a place
where I cross a swale; I hit then, too. Also note that it is very hard
to drive onto a trailer if the boom pivot is too low.

If you have rocky or sloping terrain, low backhoe ground clearance will be an issue at some point. I've scraped the bottom of an L35 hoe and a full size New Holland hoe on my property, so I knew the BH80X was going to be an issue.

Also, on terrain like that, and especially sloping terrain, that big, heavy 80X hoe hanging another foot off the back is going to create some stability issues. That's why I chose the BH75. The 80X would have been fine on my last property, but I'm quite positive I would have been unhappy with it on my current property.

I haven't found any stability issues so far I have to say, but I have my tires foamed, which is even heavier than loaded.

I have up 45 degree grades on my property (on which the tractor does NOT go). Basically anything but flat.

Thread Revival:

Another thread revival for me today. Quick question, did anyone look into whether you could mount the BH80X on the B3030 using the B7800 subframe attachment, and just "modify" the offending piece of sheet metal that caused them to push the hoe out an down a bunch? Seems like that would be the best of both worlds.

Maybe I will sweet talk Charles into selling me his BH80X and then buy a B7800 subframe for it, and make it work on my B3030? Of couse it doesn't hurt that I have access to welding equipment, and a CNC shop at work if I get in a bit too deep...

Does anyone know where I can compare specs on the Woods vs the Kubota hoes? I cannot seem to find any useful info on the Woods site...

Funny you should say that. Not sure if you saw my pricing thread today, but I am thinking of selling the bh 80x if I buy an M59 - figure I'll never use the small hoe with a big hoe around

I saw it, hence my nudge...

My wife will kill me though. I better get plans for the pond done, so I can dig it quickly if I buy a hoe, and keep her happy!

Hello Steve,
I looked at buying the B7800 Subframe and mounting it on the B3030.
Unfortunately, the subframes are different.
: (

The piece of sheet metal behind the B3030 seat comes off fairly easy.

I'm waiting for a free day to install the new BH75 on the B3030.

Later,
Rick
