Unless I am missing something yes you have to remove the oil pan or raise the motor to remove the axle.
I called Western Kentucky Salvage for 30.00 more I can buy them brand new that is a joke.

Yes, it does suck. Came out the other way on my old 6000...way to go Kubota...

Sorry about Western Kentucky, they've obviously gone the route of the big car salvage yards...

You don't have to remove the oil pan. The frame that the front axle is bolted to is seperate from the rest of the tractor. Just remove the bolts that go through the frame and into the side of the engine and that whole frame will slide off. The engine will still be connected to the bell housing. I just put a new ring gear and pinion in mine, I didn't take the front end out, just put the new ring gear in through the left side of the axle, easy job to do really. Feel free to ask any questions, I'll be glad to help.

Okay I had to break down and order the ring gear set today. I am hoping my neighbor can get his truck out and get us to the parts store tomorrow to pick it up. My truck is stuck in my front yard while I was trying to bring firewood up to the garage. We have about 10 inches of snow on our driveway that is about 1600 feet long down hill that I share with my neighbor. I tried to get my other neighbor to bring his truck up and plow last night. He has a old chevy with brand new tires and he couldn't even make it up to start plowing. I will have gears tomorrow morning and we will be putting them in and try to start plowing. I hope the place I am getting them from can give me the torque specs of the couple things I need.

Monroe county about an hr south of indy.
We were supposed to get more snow than we did, but it was warm enough that part of the accumulation melted before the next freezing rain/snow storm came through

Okay thanks for all the help once again I picked up the gears this afternoon. Got them in pretty easy and plowed the driveway finally. I was able to get my truck back up the driveway.
