B7100 Dynamo no voltage output

I am getting no voltage out of my Dynamo (checked from 2 blue wires out of dynamo) . Dynamo is moving freely and I have read they very rarely go bad. Is there some reason this dyno is no producing voltage. I have suspected the regulator may be bad and have replaced this with no better results and don't know which way to go now. Can the coils or magnets go bad in a dyno.

Are you using an AC volt meter? You should get around 24 volts AC from the dynamo...

They can fail, but it's usually the bearings that go out.

It is much easier and more productive to convert to a single wire internally regulated Alternator... KennyV

It's nearly impossible for the magnets to go bad in a device like this.
Measure the resistance across the two blue wires. You should see about 0.4 ohms resistance. With the dynamo disconnected from the regulator, run the engine and see if there is any voltage out. Mine reads 14.5 VAC at idle and 36 VAC at full rev. If there is no voltage, I would suspect a broken wire... in other words, a resistance value much higher than the 0.4 ohms reading in the first step.

with dyno disconnected i am not getting any ac voltage out of the dyno. i will check the resistence on the dyno as soon as possible and try and find out if a wire is broken. as for conversion to a single wire alternator how is this done and what is involved in this. thanks jim

There are several threads outlining the job... It is Well worth doing as it will give you a LOT of dependable amperage for improving lighting & adding other electric circuits...

I tried to convert my Kubota B20 to a 1 wire alternator, but couldn't find one small enough to fit without hitting my exhaust manifold... Anyone know where they might have one that would fit?
