Just did my 50 hour service and I found it to be a lot easier than I thought. I was surprised to only get 2.5 gallons out of 3.3 gallons (75%) out of the three plugs plus the filters. The dealer thought I would get about 3 gallons out. Has this been about what everyone else has gotten out? The fluid was cloudy but not too bad. The strainer was the hardest thing to get out and it had a little bit of metal on it. TIA.

I did my service a while back but I have 4 drain plugs written down plus the one for the engine. 2 at the rear axle, 1 at the mid pto and one at the transmission. The one at the transmission seemed to dribble endlessly and slowly. I ended up using a bit over 3 gallons to refill.

I just took a look at my service manual. It's written very badly and leads you to believe that there is only one rear axle drain plug based on the picture they show. Did you get them both?

I talked to the dealer and looked in the manual and it shows the three plugs. Dealer said the same. One plug near the PTO and one plug on each side. I think other posts have also mentioned three plugs. I didn't even see a fourth. My strainer was pretty clean so I'm not too worried about it. You would think that there would be a lot trapped in lines and so forth. Once I run it for a little while I will check it again and I should have to add some more for the filters.

The 4th plug is right above the drive pulley of the mower deck. It's what they are pointing to in the second picture down in the service manual. If you look at the picture it shows the front drive shaft coming down which puts it forward of the pto drain plug to give you a point of reference. I read your other post saying that you did your service without taking the deck off. I doubt you could have gotten to that one much less seen it in that case. The manual is inaccurate and misleading on this point.

Thanks Jeff. Now I see it in the manual. Haven't looked on the tractor. The figures are deceiving and I wonder why the dealer didn't say anything about four? I wonder if it is too late to drain the front transmission? I wonder if I will get all of the fluid out I just put in. I haven't started the tractor yet. Maybe I can. If not I will probably wait until the next scheduled fluid change. I must have gotten most of it. From other posts I see that most got 3 gallons out which means I am 2 quarts short. I doubt it will make that much difference since the oil was pretty clean and there are new filters on and the strainer is clean. It should just mix and should be O.K.

I have noticed in other posts that some dealers are saying not to change the fluid until 150 or even 300 hours. I wonder if they will honor the warranty work? I doubt it.

Once again thanks for pointing that out. Maybe it will help someone else out in the future so they don't make the sam mistake. This forum is great!

I don't think I'd worry about it. It's hard to tell where the oil level is to figure how much oil will come out. When I opened the front plug there wasn't a whole lot of fluid there but that may have been because I had already drained the other three. It's like your suggestion on the other thread about draining the Mid PTO first so there isn't as much flow at the rear axles to avoid a mess. I did the axles first and made a heck of a mess since the plugs point to the side rather than down and the tires interfere with getting a drain pan in a good position. I will most definitely try your suggestion at my next service!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks Jeff. I am going to fire it up today and then check the level. I will probably have to add a little after the filters fill, etc. I will catch it next time. Hopefully nothing will leak because I didn't tighten it enough.

Can't wait to get more seat time. I have a couple of projects to do this weekend.
