B7500 steering wheel not straight!

There is no mechanical connection to the front wheels on most power steering equipped tractors.
I know that on the Kiotis you can still steer them when they are shut off, they just steer hard and it takes more revolutions of the steering wheel to turn the tires than it did when running.
I would imagine the Kubotas are similar.

How do you steer the tractor if the engine stops?

Hydrostatic steering is not at all like the steering in a car or truck. When the engine is pumping fluid, the steering column directs the fluid to the steering cylinder as you turn the wheel. But when the engine is off, the steering wheel is more like the handle of a pump that pumps fluid to the cylinder based on the direction you turn it. It's hard to turn because it is pumping fluid.

With the engine off, turn the steering wheel so the tires go from full left to full right. You should have to turn the wheel more times around than when the engine is on. Check it out.

Oh, I learned about this by talking to the service tech at the local dealership because I also was wondering if something was going goofy on my L3410. It's normal, just way different from cars, trucks and old tractors.

I believe that you have hydrostatic steering. There is no mechanical connection and they do tend to drift around a bit.

It is power steering.

Gear coupled steering box. One of the only few tractors left of this type out of the three big names. That was one of the reasons that made me decide to purchase a B7500. No steering drift!!!!!!

Take off the steering wheel and see if if it is splined. If it is, put the steering wheel on without tightening and get the tractor on a straight road. When tractor is going straight, stop the tractor, pull the steering wheel off and put it back on straight, run again and if everything is good tighten nut and enjoy.

So you have a shaft all the way from the steering wheel to the gear box, then right to the tie rods ??? I will have to look at my Dads again. My BX and the old 430 Case only have hoses from the steering valve to the steering cylinder. The poster in question says his is off by 90° so something is major bent if it is truly direct coupled.

Steering Wheel connected to the Steering Shaft, Steering Shaft connected to the Power Steering box, Power Steering box connected to the Pitman Arm, Pitman Arm connected to the Drag Link, Drag Link connected to the Knuckle Arm, Knuckle Arm Connected to the Left Front Axle Case, Left Front Axle case connected to the Tie Rod Assembly Left Side, The Left Side Tie Rod Assembly is part of the Right Side Tie Rod Assembly, The Right Side Tie Rod Assembly is connected to the Right Front Axle Case.

Sorry Kevin, I just had to do it:)

The BX Series tractor steering is very different from the B7500 tractor.

Yes he might of bent something.

Could be the Tie Rod Assembly or the Drag Link. Which are very easy to replace and not that bad in cost.

It could also be that the splined end of the Pitman Arm has jumped due to the nut loosening.

What I would do is see if one of the two parts I just mentioned are indeed bent. If they are replace them. If you cannot find anything bent then check the Pitman Arm. if that is fine check the tightness of the Knuckle Arm bolts.

If everything is fine adjust the steering wheel. It also could of moved.

My Dad bent the tie rod twice so we welded a stiffener to it. I will look at the steering tomorrow but I am sure his is off center these days at about 500 hours.

The B7500 is equiped with integral type power steering. I,m not going into details on this. The threads are too entertaining.

Here is a good description what Integral Power Steering is:

Integral Power Steering uses a recirculating ball system in which steel balls act as rolling threads between the steering worm shaft and the rack piston. The key to its operation is a rotary valve that directs power steering fluid under pressure to either side of the rack piston. The rack piston converts hydraulic power to mechanical force. The rack piston moves up inside the gear when the worm shaft turns right. It moves down when the worm shaft turns left. During these actions, the steel balls recirculate within the rack piston, which is power assisted in movement by hydraulic pressure.

You have something that has slipped or bent. I can't remember exactly what my previous B7500 had but the steering wheel never moved off center in 300hrs.
I know my L2800 is steering shaft to steering gear box with hydraulic lines to it... just like my Peterbuilt truck.

I also have a B7500, and it developed a slow leak in one of the front tires. I found that when I would drive it with one tire low on air, the tractor would pull to one side and the steering wheel was no longer centered with the tractor in motion. When the low tire pressure was corrected (same pressure in both front tires), everything returned to normal. This happened every time the tire leaked down. You might try checking your tire pressures.
