B7500 Transmission Strainer 50 hour service

How critical is it to clean the Transmission Strainer at the 50 hour service mark? The maintenance schedule in the owners manual does not show this as a requirement, only filters and fluid. Is the manual wrong?

Critical. There's LOTS of metal shavings... I had them at 50 and 300 hours.
