How often do you guys change, not clean, your air filters? I am pretty ****, and usually, I clean the air filter, radiator screen, and grille after each time I mow. I usually blow compressed air through the air filter from the inside out, but I was reading somewhere that it is not good to do that too many times. The filter always looks clean - despite all the dust I may blow out of it - but I do not want to break down the filter's ability to filter dirt if compressed air is damaging it. I certainly am not using 200psi air and damaging or distorting the filter. Also, Kubota says in their manual I can wash the filter. Wash a cardboard filter? How can that be right? It does, however, say to only wash twice, then discard. How about the inner filter? I have about 90 hours on the rig, so I am thinking that I should change the entire outer filter regardless of the way it looks. Thoughts? Thanks.

Work Shop Manual states…
Clean element every 100 hours (more frequently in dusty conditions) with compressed air at less than 99 PSI.
When carbon or oil adheres to element, soak the element in detergent for 15 minutes, then wash it several times in water, rinse with clean water and dry it naturally. After it is fully dried, inspect inside of the element with a light to check for damage, (referring to instructions on the label attached to the element).
Replace every year or after 6 times of cleaning…..

I would think the inner element SHOULD never get dirty but look at it and you should see if the outer filter is doing it’s job… of you ever find it with dirt/dust on it replace both inner and outer elements and examine the sealing points on the outer element… KennyV.

You're not doing your engine any favor by opening the air filter cannister that often. Every time you do, you create the possiblility for dirt to enter the engine plus the filter may not reseal itself 100 percent.

This all comes from a Donaldson field rep, not me. I'm just repeating what he said. He said far--FAR--more engines are damaged by overchanging the filter element than underchanging.

I put a Filter Minder on mine. Then all you have to do is wait until you see the restriction climb into the "change filter" zone.

It takes a LONG time.

I just take off the element once in a while and blow inside with a leaf blower. Seems to get rid of dust.

I did the following at 50 hours on my 7610. Removed the filter. Snapped the cap back on to keep stuff out. Soaked the element in detergent for 15 minutes, then washed it several times in water, rinsed with clean water and let it dry naturally for a couple days. Just what the book stated. It removed a lot of dirt/carbon and didn't seem to damage the cardboard at all. Put it back in the 7610 and it runs fine.
