When I first serviced my B7200 HST in 1987 I found the Suction Metal Strainer (Hydraulic system bolt type strainer) containing rather a large quanity of metal filings that were obviously left in the engine etc.

Now I have a B7510 with 30 hours... If I were to remove and clean the metal strainer of the hydraulic system now, without draining the hydro fluid would I lose a large quanity of fluid or just what oil in the line from removing the strainer? Does anyone know?
Thanks in advance

I am guessing her, but in my manual, as it specifies when you are "...changing the transmission fluid, also clean the suction strainer", I would assume you will lose a significant quantity of fluid and would advise against it.

On my 7610 the strainer is at the same 'level' as the hyd oil filter which is higher up on the case than the drain plugs but when I drained the hyd fluid I got 3.25 gallons.

You'd probably get at least a gallon if you removed the strainer plug before the drain plugs it would be my guess.

At my 50 hour a got a few metal chards but not enough to concern me. The screen is pretty fine mesh and the filter will get the rest.
