Hi,
My B7800 brake lock lever is not doing anything. Any suggestions on how to fix it? It never really seemed all that good a system to me, but now I have to fix it. thanks, brett w

I had a problem with my parking brake not working. It's been awhile but I believe that a nut needed loosing and some lubrication to get it to work. There is not much in the WSM on parking brake. I have attached a page from the WSM. Hope this helps.

Brett,

You say it is not doing anything, does it lock down and just not hold?

Based on Ron's attachment it looks the same as the set up on the B6000. When I first got mine the brake lock would not hold either. The brakes were just out of adjustment, too much free play / travel in the peddle. Simply take up some of the slack and make sure both sides are equal.

I hear you on that. The parking brake design is definitely a weak feature on the B7800. Considering the potential for a serious injury due to the design defects, it is surprising that Kubota does not have a fix.

You indicate the lock lever is not doing anything. When you depress the lever, it should cause a slotted bar (called the Plate Brake Lock in the parts manual) to engage a flat plate on the left side of the left brake pedal rod. This should be easily visible from a position squatting on the right side of the tractor. There does not appear to be any adustment to the parking brake lever assembly, so you probably need to look for a missing part or something bent which prevents the slotted bar from engaging the plate on the brake rod.

I used to feel that way too...I wanted something more macho to pull and set, to hold the parking brake. Or at least to make me feel like it was holding the parking brake better (I assume the set up is the same as on the B2910).

But I honestly have to say that mine has not failed me once in 530 hours of use over the last couple years. And in checking it out, when laying under the tractor doing something else, it seems like it may be adequate. Not super heavy duty or anything, but adequate...

Like you said Aloha, it sounds like something is loose or missing...

Hi,
No it's not grabbing or locking or clicking on anything. It did for a work for while but it always seemed aqward. Now it just moves in and out but is far too easlily moved. Doesn't engage at all when the brake is depressed.
thanks for the info to all. I'll have a solid look underneath. I need it to be right as do we all. The 7800 will roll on a hill if you don't have the brake locked. bw

Brett I have found that I can't easily set the parking brake on my 7800. It's a real hit or miss thing. Exactly where the pedals are and how I move the lever seem to make all the difference as to if it will catch. I'll follow this post to see if anyone has ideas to get it working better.
