I was transporting a brush hog on a country road last night. I was in high gear, and every once in awhile, I would get a little surge - similar to a turbo boost - while driving. I had the pedal down the whole time, so it was not due to me changing the speed. I have about 100 hours on my machine. Is that to be expected? I was wondering if I had air in my hydrostatic system, or if this is something to be expected.

Never had anything like you described. Were you by any chance in 4WD?

No, I wasn't in 4WD. I was traveling on a fairly level road, with a few hills.

I think it is due to the terrain. When ever so slightly going down hill, almost level but not quite, the speed of the tractor gets ahead of the engine just a bit. Then when tractor speed slows down, the drivetrain hooks up again and there is a forward surge. I have noticed this too, and it always happens under these conditions. Under constant load, this never occurs.

I've noticed that before on mine in high range. It is like when you are on a little incline it pulls in down some but then when you start down a slight decline it picks up. I thought something was wrong at first as the incline and decline were ever so slight but when I got on a steeper hill it really pulled it down and I had it running at about 2400 rpms.

Reading other comments I must say that I have a really flat piece of property. So perhaps that is why I never noticed this possible behaviour.

I have noticed this on my b7800 also. Does anyone notice their machine lurching sometimes when wanting to make a slow start forward or reverse. My machine has always done this and so has my neighbors b2910. It is as if the transmission builds up pressure and then quickly releases it. Scares me sometimes when I am hooking up implements.

My B2910 does this also. I do not have to be in high gear for it to happen. When in low gear it does not change speed but the difference is noticeable.

Are you sure it wasn't just the govenor on the engine, these are very sensitive to even little dips in roadway.
