B7800 Wheel Spacers

   / B7800 Wheel Spacers #2
I asked my dealer about spacers and he happened to have some that I saw, measured and documented. Unfortunately, I never got a part number. He wanted $350 for the pair (including new, longer bolts).

I ended up making a drawing of my own and sent it to a local machine shop. My version only spaces the wheels out by 1 inch, which is all I need. I expect to have them soon. You can find my drawing at http://www.jzerr.com/tractor.htm .

Let me know if you want contact info for my dealer or my machine shop.

There was a post here sometime in the past telling the exact part number for the rear wheel spacers...

Unfortunately, I can't find it, even though I thought I saved it! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I remember checking the price for the spacers at tractorsmart.com so I know the part number was good...

Hope someone can point us at the thread [so I can save it smarter this time /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif ] or remember's the number.

I have chains on the rear of my B2910 without spacers, but I have R4 tires. I assume you have turf tires...

Jeff,
looked at your drawing, got out my old 2150 manual, looks like the same plan is good to go for me -Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I can run my chains but I have to be very careful how I strap up the inside, this looks like a good long term project to get done sometime. Now I'll have to find some stock - I don't know if i can find anything quite that thick at my surplus connection, but even some additional spacing would be a plus. Are you going to have to go for longer bolts? My book shows M16 x 1.5 threads, but not the length or grade of bolts.
Also of interest, my book shows a spacer as an option for the ag tires, but not the turfs /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif They are already a deep dish type of mount, any dealer feedback about spacing out turfs???

Hey Marty,

I've gotten limited information from my dealer. In fact, this all started (see Henro's link to previous post) when I bought my tractor, with turf tires AND chains all at once from my dealer. He made NO mention of the need for spacers. When I tried to install the chains, boy was I surprised. (and disappointed, confused, pissed, etc., etc.).

Also, to find the bolts, I contacted Maryland Metrics. They are local for me, but they'll do the leg work for finding just about any metric hardware and they'll ship it to you. See their web site http://www.md-metrics.com for contact info. BTW, their web site is pretty goofy looking, but you'll find them quite helpful. It might be best to just call them. I spoke to a guy named Lee Sacks.

My machinist-buddy found the raw material for the spacers at a local metal supplier. I think it was around $30~$40 for material. I could put you in contact with him if you'd like.

Good luck!

Henro,

The spacers are for a friend, but he has R4 tires. Does it still require the spacers with R4's? Man, they sure are not cheap. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I don't use spacer on my R4s. Now I have 2-link ladder chains and good tensioners. I think my chains and tensioners cost around $250 for the set. Cheaper than the spacers would cost!

Anyway, a more aggressive chain might require spacers. I don't know.

Below is a pic I posted in another thread. R4s, tensioners, no spacers, no problem in my case. As is often pointed out, half the cross links do ride down between the lugs. I guess this may always be the case if you snug up your ladder chains. I still get ample traction from the chain crosses on top of each lug.

I doubt that you could run chains on the B7800/2910 loose though [without spacers], like some people prefer to do. With the chains tight I have about 1/2 inch clearance at the fender bolts, if I remember right.

Since the chains + tensioners cost less than the spacers, I would try the chains first and see if I needed the spacers...your friend may not, since I don't...

Henro has a good point. I am "just OK" with my chains and turfs, but I used some old tractor trailer chains thaT were not quite as wide a crosslink as I wanted and they ride pretty close to the tread, so the closure stuff is pushed out in the way farther towards the fender. Henro, do you have a similar tensioning arrangement on the inside, or do you link up the inside tight and then tension the outside only?
As far as materials, machining and bolts, I have some local connections for stuff, if I find some 3/4 or 1" aluminum, I might earmark it for this project, but the different chain configuration might be even better. I am still concerned about the amount of offset from the axle. My manual for the 2150 showed the Ag tire as centered right over the bolt flange of the rim, then spaced out 2 inches with a spacer. The turf tire is already 2.xx ( I think it was 2.9 inches) without a spacer, adding one will increase that more. My turfs are loaded so this is something for me to mull on awhile. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
