BEWARE! Just want to let the forum know that I placed an order with Northern Tool and was DOUBLE CHARGED! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif It was a call in order. They charged me when I placed the order AND THEN WHEN THEY SHIPPED IT! After playing phone tag for 2 DAYS (11 phone calls + endless on-hold time) they finally took care of the doublecharge. I'm lucky that I am on vacation now or this would have probably been a real headache when I got my next bill. Did any of you ever have this problem? If so, let me know. Thanks.

I'm sure Northern Tool did not want this to happen. I fear that one day we will make the same mistake. The good thing is Northern Tool fixed it.

I had a order problem with Northern once. They went out of their way to fix it. They had a product shipped to me directly from the manufacturer at their expense.

Also, a billing mistake can happen to anyone. My accountant billed me twice once, and he's an expert with numbers.

Never had any trouble with them wether in stock,
back ordered or direct ship from Mfg.

I have had worse than that buying from JC Whitney. I'd rather pee on an electric fence than go through that again.

Northern Tools has always been good to me... I hate to bad mouth anyone if they at least attempt to fix it for you. There are a lot more companies out there that don't even let you talk to them beyond the answering machine.

I've never had a problem with them.. but did have a few months of problems with Wall-Mart.

I work a night gig, and get out some nights at 11:30pm.. I drive right by a super wall-mart on the way home, and sometimes stop and shop. I always pay by discover at wall-mart ( cash back ya know! ) and it seems like whenever I would check out within 10 minutes of midnight ( before or after..) that the charge on my statement would be doubled. And then one credited back. This became a hassle, as in a month.. I might have been to wall-mart 5-6 times.. and I had to keep up with the credits.. it also became a hassle when the statement cutoff time/date was cutting off a credit.. So.. I would have double charges.. but the credits would not hit till the next statement.. In effect I was having to pay the extra charge.. and then I would have twice that amount as a credit on my next statement... I called the store, their corporate accounting office.. many many times.. managers.. etc.. I got tired of it.. and called discover. They suggested i dispute it the next time it happened. ( Not dispute it to not pay for the original purchase.. just the screw-up.. ) As usual.. the next statement had many such occasions of this, including one of those carried ballances, and I did as discover suggested, and disputed those charges.. Discover was very helpfull the whole time, and said that what wallmart was doing was really a big no-no. ( the doubled charges that had the credits coming in on the next month ).. I did get one sort of nasty call from wallmart one time, and told them what was happening, and refered them to discover.. I called discover and told them what happend, and they apparently got right on it and contacted wallmart.. then courtesy called me back to let me know that whoever called me with the bad attitude I guess.. was probably now looking for another large chain store to work for... And since then.. my billings have never had that happen again... guess somebody got it fixed...

As soon as I stop laughing, I am sure I can come up with some witty response....

Soundguy,
That has happened to me with Discover (god bless cash back).
If your lucky, maybe you're getting cash back for the double billings.

Got to like that cash back!

I had a similar experiance with HARBOR freight:

bought a small trailer 4x8 job, and it didn't arrive for weeks kept calling asking for it. finally told them if it didn't arrive by the following friday I wanted my money back (as they billed me right away) and when I called after it didn't show and calcled order they said it shipped. so the shipping company sends me a bill for storage of the traile saying they can't deliver to a home address and I have to drive 4 hrs one way to pick it up. It was being deliverd to my buisness with forck lifts and all. anyhow I called trucking company and they delivered 3 weeks later a box all broken to bits and missing stuff and only 1 of 3 contianers! I refused the thing and sent it back, picked up the phone anc called discover card. I had a full refund and all with in a few min. I did later get a bunch of bills for the trailer but I kept refering them to the e-mail and discover card people. they finally gave up and dropped it...

OH this was on a INTERNET ORDER never had a problem with Phone orders or picking up at the local store from them.

anyhow I LOVE that cash back awards too! I have a new card VISA which gives a full 1% back in check for automatically, discover you have to ask for the money.... anyhow I also have 1 year free interest on that new visa. so far I'm up to almost 4 grand on that card and pay off date is comming in july... (hate that bill but better than the high interest! LOL

I once ordered a video camera mail order for about $350 by American Express. When I got my Amex bill, I found that instead of being charged $350 my credit card account instead had been CREDITED for $350.

I called the NY outfit that sold me the camera and spent quite a while trying to explain the "problem". Assured that everything was straightened out, I go on about my business. Received my next Amex bill and it now has $700 of credits on it!! They had credited me another $350!

I finally got it straightened out, but I though this very strange.

I found Northern Hydraulics to be an exceptional mail order
company. Exceptional in the sense they had never failed to
thoroughly dissatisfy me as a customer. Truly spectacular.
I gave up on them years ago and can't believe they are still around.

Quite objectively, they are consistently overpriced. I've
yet to fail to find what I need elsewhere at a considerably
lower price. Just my experience.

So - are Northern Tool and Northern Hydraulics the same company? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I could be wrong but believe it was previously called Northern Hydraulic and changed their name to Northern Tool.

They used to go by the name "Northern Hydraulics". They changed their
name at some point a few years ago when they discovered a company in
the UK already was using that URL.
