Back drum help!

I change the front pads so I decided to put new shoes on the ranger also. Everything is in now the problem I am having now is I can't get the drum on the back wheels now!!! The new shoes are to think it seems and I don't want to start beating it might chip the new shoes. I don't have a E brake because that was a problem last time I changed them so I cut the cable. Do you think it's the new wheel cylinder? Not compressing.

Adjust the back brake shoes in until the drum slips over, drum brakes have an adjusting screw opposite the wheel cylinder.

I turned the star wheel to bring it in but still no go.

Are you having trouble with both sides? Back brake shoes can be a bear sometimes, you may have to wiggle them around to get them centered as well.

Measure the compressed width of the old and new cylinder to make sure they are the same length. Open the bleed screw a bit so it can compress all the way although it should compress via the return springs. Was the star adjuster turned in all the way? Did you do one side at a time so you could make sure you put things back together correctly? One lead and one trailing brake shoe per side?

That is why I am so glad that they went to 4 wheel disc brakes. Rear shoes were always a pain. The self adjusting star should be screwed in all the way then check that the wheel cylinder is compressed all the way in. You may have to loosen the bleeder valve to allow it to relax all the way. After that, if you still cant get the drum back on, they may have given you the wrong brake shoes.

I did one side at a time the star wheel is all the way in there slack there I'll turning the bleeder screw on. Both sides are not going on I hope they are the right shoes 10.

I just tried open the bleeder screw tap on the pads still don't fit then took a tape the drum is 10" the shoes are 10 5/8"!.

Is there a rather large wear difference in the outer edge of the drum and the inner portion where the old shoes ran??? Sometimes there's a ledge of rust of heat corrosion at the edge of the drum. I always use an angle grinder and knock most of that off before I reassemble. Then if I have to come back later I don't have to adjust the shoes slack so far to get the drum back off.

Sorry I don't have an old drum laying around in the shop to take a pic of.

I used sandpaper to sand in inner ledge also wirework led it to nothing. I talk to the auto parts Ford does not tell you what size they have either 9 or 10" it's been 3 years since I changed the shoes so I don't know the size! I thought the bigger for a 4x4 but no ..
