Back hoe, 3ph, vs Subframe vs Frame mount

/ Back hoe, 3ph, vs Subframe vs Frame mount #11
After reading TBN for more years than I care to admit to, and having seen a few tractors broken in half from 3 PH backhoes, you would never use a 3PH backhoe, but it's like seeing the blacken lungs in pictures, some people still gotta smoke them cigarettes...........My IH3444 construction hoe has a nonremoveable, except with a cutting torch, subframe for the backhoe, that is absolutely massive. That's the way to go, subframe. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

John_Mc , very nice information /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I wondered why you enjoy outfitting your NH with Woods attachments? You clearly like their products. Just curious if you can tell me why you went for something like the Woods 7500 and not a NH back hoe.

IH3444,

Thanks for the info. Will definitely do more research. Last thing I want to do is damage my bestest toy !!

My NH dealer is also one of the largest Woods dealers in my area, so they get some pretty good prices. In addition, I went with the Woods 7500 BH for two reasons: (1) I found a used 3 pt hitch 7500 for sale cheap and (2) I knew that Woods was coming out with their new 4 point hitch subframe "soon" and that my 3 point veriosn could be easily adapted to it (I ended up waiting a year and a half fromthe time I bough tthe BH till they came out with on ethat fit my tractor). I had seen the 4 pt hitch subframe in action on a Kubota and on a NH TC45D, and liked it a lot.

To the question by another poster of why NH does not recommend using 3 pt hitch mounted backhoes: it's a mechanical stress issue. It is possible to crack the tractor in half if you are not careful. Having said that, I did use my BH on the 3 pt hitch a few times, but they were easy jobs: dig a hole toplant a small tree in, dig up a rock I'd been hitting in the yard with the mower. I intentionally stayed away from digging up sumps or other tough jobs until I had the subframe.

I have read many posts about 3 pt attached backhoes. My TC 29 has a 3 pt 7500 woods bh that has been mostly with it attached and the machine has 1100 hours on it and guessing the bh has 800 of those hours. The backhoe is maxed out all the time. It has pulled the unit out of mud, etc. , dug 16" oak tree stumps dug garage footers, etc. What I am saying is this; No problems except woods changed the 3 pt mounting attachment on the transmission housing in about 2002 and my dealer swapped it out. I never read anywhere that New Holland forbids 3 pt backhoes. Maybe I have been lucky.
