Back Hoe Arm to fast

My backhoe arm that raises and lowers the bucket moves to quickly when the lever is moved, is there an easy way to slow it down? All else works fine, just this one cyclinder.

Either use a restrictor in one of the fittings or use an adjustable needle valve to adjust the flow to your needs.

This needle valve will restrict in one direction and allow full flow in the other direction.

That is what you use the levers for, to feather the flow by just opening the valve enough to move at the speed you want. If it is too fast, throttle back and/or don't pull full back on the lever when raising. I sure wouldn't put in any restriction device as when you learn proper operation, you may want it to move faster.

If you are feathering the control valve a bit and it still moves too rapidly, you may have a bad valve also that only opens fully or fully closed. I have never seen one do that, but it may be possible I suppose.

Agree with Gary Fowler. This topic comes up regularly. When you are accustomed to the machine it will seem too slow. The other thing you can do is use two functions at the same time - stick and swing or stick and bucket.

Just reduce the engine rpm and the pump flow will decrease,, and therefore speed of operation.

that's why I asked what rpms he's running at. I have the same tractor except the 30 version and I don't notice any problems like he's experiencing.

I run it at about 1800 rpms.

How many hours of use do you have on the hoe? As stated reducing the amount of movement of the lever and RPMs will slow the motion of the dipper stick, (attached to the bucket); and same with the boom, if that is what you were referring to moving too fast.

He only has 7.8 GPM pump flow, so 1/2 or 1/3 rpm would produce about 3.9 or 2.6 GPM's. .

Years ago when I first got my backhoe, I read (I think on this forum) that a good training process is to fill the bucket with water and move it around without sloshing the water all over the place.

Being near a lake, this was pretty easy for me to do so I got to play/practice with movements and control using someone elses water!!
