My son was grabbing a basket of wood for the pool heater when he said something was not right the back hoe was leaning to one side. Told him to shut it down and we would look at it later. Well ther was definitely something wrong
Anyone run into this cracking of the backhoe sub frame?
LB 3100 hoe on an XR 4150h
209 hours on the tractor and probably 25 on the hoe, all of which are around the home….not abused in the least
Going to try and reach out to ls to see if this is a problem (common or not)
Thanks in advance

It broke where the frame goes from strong to weak...whoda thunk?

Time for some gussets and other helping pieces.

Others have posted similar on other makes.

Fish Gussets I believe became the remedy.

Eddie had a similar backhoe repair.

Really tho, what a PP design, you can totally see it breaking there even before it was used. Any chance you can get a bit longer shot of the area?

It's the way they are designed. Lightweight and prone to break.

I have the same backhoe with many hundreds of hours and no issues. All of the weight of the backhoe hangs on the rear support under the tractor. The only way I could think it would crack there (barring bad tubing material) is if you were digging or pulling something heavy without the landing legs down, or driving very fast over bumpy terrain with the boom fully extended behind you and a full bucket of clay. If the design were that bad, everyone's would be breaking there.

^^^^^yep, dug a bunch of stumps, rocks, lifted engines, and hundreds of hours digging trenches. No cracks, bends, or problems with mine either!

Kioti and LS have the same type of mount. I have only heard of one Kioti BH breaking in the same area. I would suspect something like Supraman said.

Yeah, we could kick around reasons and expectations forever...but the bottom line is that it is not reinforced correctly. Lots of time designers get away with poor design by using heavier gauge metal. That's not what they did here.
Either way, it's a minor problem and easy remedied. Get a mobile welder to stop by, jack it into position, and clap on some side plates plus maybe a gusset or two. He can eyeball it and put the metal where the stress is instead of just putting a weld joint at the stress point. It will be better than it was before.
Luck,

Still better (and fixable if you can weld), unlike a 3PH mounted backhoe where it's entirely possible to break the rear transmission case from the stress.

I look at any tractor mounted backhoe as just an expensive toy. If I need a hoe, I go rent one.
