does anyone know how much hydraulic flow (gpm) you need to run a back hoe? we are going to purchase a pto hydraulic pump and the one we are looking at will put out 21gpm at 540 rpm. is that enough power to run the back hoe. its going on a ford 545 diesel tractor and the back hoe came off a 3 cyl,gas case tractor /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

My Woods 1050, 11 foot hoe runs off a 11 gpm pto pump just fine. Even if the hoe you are using is somewhat bigger, I think you'll be fine. Just remember that you need a tank about 1 1`/2 times the gpm of the pump. The fluid in the tank of my Woods gets quite warm and you need the supply volume not just to make sure the pump always has supply but also to keep the fluid cool.
