Never knew that. Thanks!

We also had a 150 foot AM radio tower in the back field, which made a great lightening rod.
Good reason to have them in your yard and not attached to your roof (y)

Are back yard tall antennas frequently hit by lightning or is its rare event?

Yes. We also had an aerial CB antenna. Before CW McCall my father and his snow plowing friends all kept track of each other as well as home base with two ways. It was grounded, but we had a couple of "incidents" over the years. That's all that a lightning rod is, a steel rod at the highest point, running to ground.

Back then you had to be licensed to use a CB. My brother later used the same ID as his handle when he got into HAM.

Yikes. That's a lot of surge. My grandparents place was like that. Bulbs would blow just because you were sitting in a chair close to them during a storm.

I would be throwing the main disconnect for thunderstorms, but then again, I don't mind candles or kerosene lamps.

All the best,

Peter
Consider keeping some cyalume light sticks on hand...they put out as much or more light than candles or oil lamps...they don't get hot and can't start an accidental fire...they are not expensive and last 8 hours or more...

The biggest mass shootings in North America happened during the Civil War. We haven't had much of that,... since.... well, ever since.

This don't mean it can never happen again.

I am so glad I've lived my life in this middle period of peace.

But that isn't how history works.

We have to be involved in another War. We have to be. Perpetual War is how it works.

This is how it always happens.

A generation forgets how horrible it was, so they don't know how horrible it was. And get caught up in an idea, of a better world, through War. So not knowing the horror, its okay.

We are on that road again, with China and Russia as another proxy war in the Ukraine.

And we will go to war, cause that's what we always do. And have always done.

We will be involved, cause we have already said who the winners should be. And slowly and methodically the press has told you who to back; In a War that didn't really matter to you.

But it will escalate, and the draft will become a thing again when it gets started after some event, of killing US citizens that were mercenaries, or advisors.

Can we as citizens have a question before congress about support to this war? I don't see that question being asked or voted on in a state way though our Reps. No one asked me if it was okay to send Billions of tax paying dollars to support the Ukraine? And if the majority wants to do that... Okay... I just wasn't asked, and neither were you.
Your post has absolutely NOTHING to do with the topic and can't even be considered drift. Why don't you take your political BS elsewhere?

BACK TO TOPIC: Had our first TV in 1970 and it was an old BW. Then moved shortly there after to Mohave Desert with no reception.

I hadn't watched any broadcast TV for several years, really only doing the usual host of streaming services, for all my content. But then I decided to flip on MeTV one night a few weeks back, and I've been really enjoying it again. Whereas streaming service algorithms only steer content toward you based on things you've already watched, letting you fall into a severe rut, broadcast throws things at you that you won't ever come across while streaming. Heck, I forgot how much I like Green Acres, as none of my other viewing habits had any streaming service expecting me to like the utter stupidity that happens in Hooterville.

I do believe broadcast TV as we know it has a short lifetime projection, it won't stay in its current form forever, and that saddens me. Like that aunt you never get around to calling, I may not watch much broadcast TV anymore, but I somehow take comfort in it being there.

Green Acres episodes were all in color, but that did not stop me from Zsa-Zsa-Va-booming over Eva Gabor. Eva was a hottie. 😍😍😍

except for her clothes 😆

I know I am mixing Gabors, but Eva was the hot one. Zsa Zsa just had the hot name.
