hmmm, some more left coast garbage.......between calif and seattle....the US is going down the tubes. By all means lets not have the hospitals back up generator tested...geesh

The only thing certain is there is more to come in the future...

The next thing is gas fired steam boilers tied to the surgical instrument sterilizers...

Idaho is looking better all the time...

Thanks for all the very helpful advise. At this point my question is, where do you locate the generator in relation to the house/panel/electrical service? Why? I do not want to put it to close to the house for noise reasons. Can these be effectively muffled?

You can put the generator where ever you want within reason..We charge around $9 a foot to extend the generator line,, This includes pipe and wire and all splices and boxes,, " No trenching though"..

For the generac owners - have you ever done the recommended valve adjustments? I'm interested if you did it yourself or had it done and what was the cost?

I have not...yet. I was thinking about it just yesterday while doing the service since it ran for about 150 hours last week. It looks real simple so I will do it myself at some point. I just wish they would give recommended hours for service but since it did not come with a hour meter (I added one though) I guess they couldn't.

Nope, I guess I'll dust off the manual and see what it says. New oil every year is all I've ever done.

Since most of us have diesel tractors... Why have people not been looking at the diesel gen options...

I have a friend who is in th emiddle of a diesel gen purchase... the unit is on a slab with a 40 gal fuel tank with an auto fuel transfer pump from his home heating oil tank...

Offroad diesel is cheaper by the BTU than propane around here....

I would love to have a diesel generator, but can't justify the higher cost. I want 7000 running watts with 8500 surge. The small diesels stop at 5000 running, then there is a big capacity/price jump to 12000 watts. That middle ground doesn't appear to exist.

I'm looking for a back-up generator for my house. I'm thinking, from the Generac website that a 17 kw unit would do. For those that have done this, any comments, experience or suggestions would be much appreciated. I'll be running propane. Last winter, was pretty intense from a power loss standpoint here. Approx 15-18 days.

easy and safest way to connect it to your house if your generator has an L14-30 plug then use a GenerLink

The only benifit i can think of for propane or NG over diesel and or gas is the shelf life if the fuel. I dont have to store or swap fuel for my generator as its hooked up to a propane tank..that never goes bad.
