I have a JD LT150 automatic riding mower and I bypassed the back up switch that turns the blades off when you go into reverse by compressing the switch and tapping it closed. Does anyone have the correct wiring diagram to bypass the switch altogether? Thanks

Is it normally open, or is it normally closed (normally being when moving forward) ? They go to some lengths to keep someone from bypassing the RIO system.

Apparently taping it doesn't work well?

I had a LT155 and I took the switch off the frame and chicken banded it to the frame so when you hit reverse it does not trigger the swtich to shut off the blades.

Timmy that's my problem, when I hit the reverse pedal, it shuts down the mower. That might be the fix I need. Thanks!

Why are you willing to by-pass a reliable safety feature on your Ride-on?

The RIO switch is a simple switch placed conveniently on the dashboard which acts as an aide-memoire to ensure you consciously 'choose' to mow in reverse.

Spanner are you talking about the yellow push button under the steering column on the left side of the dash board?

I'm just a little confused by your posts. Correct me if I am misunderstanding:

When you press the reverse pedal with the blades engaged and mowing your engine cuts out? This is supposed to happen.

To prevent the engine cutting out when you want to mow in reverse this 'yellow push button' needs to be pressed before you touch the reverse pedal. Once you begin to move backwards, with the blades still mowing, you can release the yellow button.

But:
I replaced it last year and it still wants to cut off.
You replaced the yellow button ? and why ??

i replaced the button because after i depressed the the button in and then depressed the revers pedal, it still wants to stop running.

The replacement button didn't solve the problem - Is that correct?

Do you "hold' the button in until you begin to mow backwards?

NO it did'nt solve the problem and yes i push the button in before i start to backup.

But do you HOLD it in until after you start mowing backwards??

Or do you just press & release then move backwards?

The RIO switch is just dumpbping down the people some more .
No real reason for it mowed for years without one and will today .

Most of the time I press and release then start backwards.

And there is your problem right there.

The circuit is a Latching-Relay-type circuit that needs two inputs. The Yellow button must be pressed AND held then the Reverse Pedal must be pressed BEFORE you let go of the Yellow button.

TWO switches activate to enable the engine and (therefore) the mower blades to stay running when you are moving backwards.

Is that understandable?

Only let go of the Yellow button once you have started moving backwards.

It's simple when you get the hang of it.

Try it out and report back.

KEYBEAR: I have helped you in your problem thread but you are not helping here with that comment. Thank-you.

My RIO are disconnected immediately too... I couldn't operate with them functioning.

But I never mow when anyone else is around.. danger of throwing sticks, etc. higher than mowing in reverse.. IMO.

:duh:

That's a debate for another place.

Suffice to say, for the machine to operate as per factory, press and hold the yellow button until after you have started mowing backwards.
