My mower has been doing great and started up fine yesterday as usual. It cut very well up to our back gate and in the next pasture we had some high grass. I had gone through grass like this previously, so had no hesitation. Soon the deck filled up with grass and I stopped to clear it out. I started it back up, went a bit further, and then "something" happened. The engine started surging and straining. I had the mower off and thought it would take a break and then return to normal running as normal. It did not.
I returned it to the barn area, sputtering, surging and rough running. I shut the engine off and checked the oil, fuel filter and deck once again. When I tried to start it back up, the engine turned but would not start and is backfiring constantly. I checked the plugs, made certain that the belts turned freely, checked the air cleaner and cannot find a thing unusual.
If anyone has run across this or has any suggestions, they are very welcome as I have run out of ideas.
