I have a Ford 545C industrial tractor/loader. I am looking at getting a backhoe attachment for this tractor. The backhoes that I am looking at are the Bradco 609 and Woods 1050. These weigh around 1800lbs. The tractor weighs around 7000 lb or a little more. I know that the subframe system is much better for attaching backhoes. The catch is that neither company makes a subframe unit for my tractor. I do plan on doing some hard work with this unit but I am wondering if since the backhoe weighs so much that the 3pt hookup will be fine or will that make it worse.

jg, anyone that I've ever talked to that had a 3pt hoe attachment seem like they were disappointed in its performance. I suspect you would be too. The 3pt hoes are just not that good of a set up. Maybe someone here that has one will shed some more light on the subject. I would go with a custom subframe set up even though it will cost more up front. You will have a more reliable rugged hoe. I was just thinking about checking into what would have to be done for a subframe set up for my JD 3520/cab tractor.Currently there is no hoe available for the cab tractors.

Got any pics of the 3 point links?

That size of tractor normally only gets a three-point hoe. Your tractor is of a completely different design as far as thickness of housings and durability of the three point when compared to compact tractors. That is the reason that a sub-frame isn't offered. You will have no problem using a three point hoe with this tractor but you do need to make sure that you get what ever lock down devise or attachments that the manufacture recommends for the hoe to attach to the tractor.

I've use a Woods 1050 on my New Holland TN75D for about 4 years now. Jerry is right about 3pt hitches on larger tractors. They work fine. The mount on the 1050, even though it is 3 points, is a very rigid mount. I can tell no difference from the subframe mounts that I ran on my 3 previous backhoes. The Woods 1050 is an excellent hoe.

jgbanshee,

Have you tried Bushhog brand backhoes? They are made here in Alabama and are very high quality. I have several Bushhog attachments and am very pleased with them. If you look at their website Bush Hog® there are 25 dealers in Pennsylvania that sell their backhoes. They have 3pth and subframe hook-ups available. Hope this helps.

Chris
