Backhoe and Filled tires

/ Backhoe and Filled tires #11
I am looking at buying a Kubota B2650 with FEL and Backhoe. I could not find a pdf owners manual on the BH77 BH that it would come with, buy did run a across a BH75 manual that stated that the tractor tires should not be filled if a BH is attached.

Is this correct? Is there a problem with having filled tires on a tractor with a BH?

I have a Mahindra and my backhoe manual says the same thing. However the dealer filled my rear tires on their own and the tractor was delivered with the hoe. So far it's doesn't seem to have any adverse effect.

The manufacture could be concerned with the wheel ballast providing extra traction . There maybe an increased tendency to break a loader frame weld or twist off drive train components ?

It might be that the majority of the weight should be on the stabilizers which requires the weight to be mostly taken off the back tires as the manual says for operating the BH.

I have not seen that in my manual, but that certainly doesn't mean it's not there. My dealer suggested filling the rears on my B26 and did so at no charge. He apparently doesn't think there's an issue with filled tires on a BH.

Would be interesting to know the reason for this. I hope someone with knowledge posts.

I am pretty sure we have the reason. Normally loaded tires are on the ground and the weight of the loaded tires is resting directly on the ground. Without a backhoe I don't see how one would really ever lift the rear tires off the ground. With a backhoe people often lift a tractor to move it around with the backhoe. The added weight of loaded tires puts a lot more stress on all kinds of components on the tractor and backhoe assembly.

Fixed it for you. Just because they filled the tires on a B26 doesn't mean they would do so on a different model. Further, your B26 is an actual TLB intended for much more demanding BH use.

thank you guys .. finally someone wonders the exact same thing as me. My BX kubota says the SAME thing . dont use filled rears with BH. I was like WHA?! apparently kubota is the ONLY manufacturer that states that and i'm calling their bluff. the speculation of outriggers, stress on axles blah blah blah makes no sense to me. If a tractor cant handle the stress with loaded rears driving around pulling something hard then how can it handle less stress just sitting there in air with outriggers all the way down?!

Kubota is not alone in this, my Deere 110tlb also states in the manual not to load the rear tires for backhoe use.

The added weight of about 1,000 lbs. on mine would make crossing over a ditch much more difficult and the weight is not needed. It would also make the rear stabilizers sink in more on soft ditch banks and put more stress on the frame. For backhoe use the extra weight is not needed.

With the backhoe removed and using with the three point hitch it would be nice to have filled tires for increased traction but it is what it is.

I solved this problem by buying the 4520 and use it for my 3 point equipment and leave the backhoe on the 110 almost all the time.

You may have missed that before you posted this, we had someone saying their Mahindra manual claims the same thing, and now Jenkinsph says his Deere says the same thing.
