The bucket will also work very well for the job you have described. Quite a bit faster than the hoe.

I have done this a few times and also removed rocks at the same time.:D

What are those pieces of metal on the bucket???

TripleR,

Thanks for the post.

Sometimes it takes reading something like what you wrote to remember just how blessed I am. I am 61 years old and by the Grace of God, I'm in EXTREMELY good health and physical condition. Other than a few broken bones in my young adult years, I've experienced no serious accidents or had any health setbacks. I try not to take it for granted and try to remember that this can change at any second.

Had I experienced anything debilitating at a young age, I don't know if I could have soldiered on as you obviously have.

I have learned that faced with adverse situations, people are capable of far more than they ever thought and I doubt anyone on here would have done any differently than I.

Overall I consider myself a pretty lucky guy and don't know I would change a thing.

I am sure you can use a backhoe for a tiller. I use my Loader Buddy in the early Spring before I get around to putting the tiller on and it works great. I just use a garden rake afterwords and am good to go. Also removes most of the vegetation if there is any. The tiller does the best job of course.

Those are bolt on forks. Usually they were used to carry logs. They also work real good for digging up tree roots and rocks.

I fear overall that we are just becoming plain lazy. Of course I may also be just a cranky old coot who doesn't know about what he is talking.

When ever I hear a cranky old coot, I have to check if my lips are a flapp'n...

I dont have a tiller or a neighbor closer than 90 miles with a tractor so my hoe works just fine. All my gardens are with raised beds and I put a few feet of kelp on the gardens every fall. I reach in on the raised beds and between the arches of the hoop houses and mix what kelp is leftover every spring in with the backhoe and then level it up and make rows with a hand hoe. Way quicker and way easier than with a shovel and keeps the dirt nice and loose by not walking or driving on it.

LOL good one! I know for sure I am getting (smarter) lazy and crankier and I hurt more all over than I ever imagined a person would as they aged and not think much about it.

So I work my tools rather than the other way around and don't lose a minutes sleep over it good sleep is hard enough to come by these days. :D

Ain't it the truth though.

I don't feel a bit guilty sitting in my air conditioned cabs using every bit of technology available, but I have "put in my time" as I am sure you have.

My wife and I honestly can't find any young people to do manual labor on our farms. Kids want money, but won't work for it. We have tried several and have given up as after a day or so, they quit showing up.

Too bad I'm not near you. Sounds right up my alley...;)
