Tractor
3130
Just got my tractor(3130) with Bush Hog 650 BH(subframe). No book on the BH yet as it is being mailed. Oh yeah, I'm new. I want to remove the Bh, dealer says drop stabilizers, bucket etc. Then pull the 2 pins and the pto and pull away(simplified version)

Well it looks like a have these 2 support bars(one per side) that attach to the subframe with 4 big old bolts. I call the dealer and he says nope you don't take off any bolts, just remove pins.

I do not see how that hoe is coming off with those 2 bars being removed from the frame or the hoe.

What is my problem? Please!

Sorry for the beginner question.

You have to lower the boom to the ground and lift just a bit to remove the weight of the backhoe from the rear of the tractor. That way you'll be able to remove the two pins. If you don't do that, it's impossible to remove the backhoe.

You may have to raise and lower a bit the boom to remove the pins because it's a tight fit.

Thanks Stef. I understand what you are saying but I do not see how pulling those 2 pins is going to free the bachoe from the tractor because of the 2 bars and 4 bolts that connect to the lower frame of the tractor( these bars are behind the seat and below the pto and run diagonally from the bh frame back to the tractor frame(subframe?).

I know this sounds confusing because I am confused.

The support bars should be attached to the tractor with 4 big old bolts. They should be attached to the subframe with a pin in each one. Here's a link to the Woods backhoe operater manuals. Woods backhoe manuals They have the removal procedure in there. But, why is it the tractor manufacturers can't put their manuals online, but many of the equipment suppliers can? Get's my goat.

The dealer should have demonstrated this for you on delivery or on the lot. I'd call and tell them you want somebody out there to demonstrate. That poor on the dealers part.

I was looking up the link while you posted again. My bh is a New Holland, but I think they are all similar. Maybe you are thinking the subframe stays with the tractor. It doesn't, it stays attached to the bh and you drive away from it. And Jim is right.

Thanks again guys. The pins in the the support arms that Tom mentioned are not there. Just big old bolts. Maybe what I need is to replace two of the bolts with pins(?).

I agree about the dealer. They sell a lot of tractors, but if they know this is someones first tractor there should be a demo or something. It is after all, big, heavy dangerous stuff. Just seemed like everybody was in a big hurry.

I'm a little slow but I will get there /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You guys are great!

Thanks for the photos. I got a lot to learn I tell you. A friend and myself got the backhoe off easy enough, we were real proud. Put the 3pth arms on, attached some implements....we got this tractor stuff down, don't you know.

When it came time to put the bh back on is when I realized the level of my incompetence. We did not block the bh and it dropped too low to mount. We stretched the bucket and boom(?) flat on the ground(when we dismounted it) and that dug in real nice and made it very hard to jack/lift/the front of the frame. Oh yeah, lining up the tabs in front without beating the guts out of the tractor was just a breeze /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Man that was hard. So 3(yes three) hours later we had it back on.

Piece of cake.

Seriously, do I have to stretch out the bh when I dismount it? Also what is best way to block/hold it up? Any tips to get those tabs in the slot(other than practice)?
