How do you move a 1400# backhoe? Build a B/H dolly

Looks like a real nice tricycle design, do you have any clearance issues rolling the backhoe under the tractor while it is still on the dolly?

No! rolls underneath quite nicely.Once underneath,I connect the hydraulic lines to the rear remotes.Once connected, the stabilizers are lowered to raise the B/H up off the dolly.Dolly is then stored in upright position to save space.

Nice looking set-up. I have a Wallenstein backhoe as well (smaller model) and have been thinking about building a dolly too. Thanks for the design idea. Any chance you could post a few more pictures from different angles? Thanks.

In your first picture, it appears that the BH is subframe mounted and that the front edge of the subframe is sitting on the concrete. Is this right? Do you ballance the BH such that the front of the subframe is an inch above the concrete so you can move it around? That's th part that has got me confused.

That is a very nice looking dolly setup though. I like the spoked steel wheels, make it look very old and sturdy. Thanks for the follow up pictures.

No! The front of the sub frame does not hit the concrete, there is at least 3"of clearance. I weigh 170#, and can stand on the end of sub frame with no problem. If I jump on the end,the BH bucket will jump on the other end. When rolling the backhoe around, there is absolutely no stability problems.
