Any idea why JD offers it for the 4110 and not the 4010. Is it just lack of hp?

I could be wrong, but I think the 4010 has lower hydraulic flow.

The sticker onthe 46 I saw actually said, "Made in the USA." Brownie points in my book.

Most little hoes will do about whatever you want as long as you are patient. You obviously aren't going to pop out a 24" stump or dig a cellar hole (unless you are short), but for common tasks around the house, it will be fine.

I was looking into buying one, but I found out that the submount frame gets in the way of the mid mount deck linkages and it would be a major job to change out the mowing deck and the backhoe. Instead I purchased a mini excavator for addition 3000 dollars. If you do not have a mid mounted mower it looks like a well made backhoe.

The downsides of the 46BH:

It takes about 10 minutes to get the whole subframe and hoe off. I don't use this tractor with a MMM, but I still have to remove it for attaching other 3pt equipment. You need to remove the 3pt arms to put on the hoe. When stored, the hoe and subframe take up a good bit of space.

Yet, the subframe is a great addition and stiffens the frame. I jerk the tractor around with the hoe quite a bit, but the subframe allows me to do that without concern.

aemiller,

For a pond? jrwattjr may have the right idea of a mini-excavator (depending on pond size, as Cliff says). The mid-mount mower issue is why my dealer steered me away from a MMM and toward a finish mower. Still have to remove the TPH links but better than dealing with the MMM.

For digging holes, rocks, stumps..., transplanting (carefully), I am pretty impressed with what the "46" will do off my 4115. As Cliff says, it can move a CUT around a bit (...CLIFF, that's putting it lightly /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif, it'll pick the whole CUT up off the ground and pull it right out of the rut I've buried myself in....slowly and safely, ofcourse /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif).

Since Cliff's pictures are so pretty (must be much more dilligent in washing off the tractor after working than I am), I've added a couple of pic.'s of another chore the 46 will do, without breaking a sweat (or hydraulic line).

Tom

P.S. (the FEL would not lift this stone over the rise that is on the left and steeper than it appears)

Wouldn't pick the "stone" completely off the ground but had no problem lifting it enough to drag it to where I wanted it.

Fine tuning the placement with the "46"

BTW: Sorry, no pic's of all the stumps I've pulled and can't seem to locate a whole slew of pic's of even larger "stones" I've "re-aligned", if not been able to lift completely.
