If you happened to see my post in the safety section you'll know that I've been having absolutely terrible luck trying to rent a backhoe lately. I've been considering buying one for my 1533 but I'm not sure what to look at. People seem to like the Woods BX-80 is that the best to go with or are there other options out there that are also good? What kind of money should I be expecting to pay for a backhoe and subframe? Do these backhoes added to the tractor perform as well as a tractor that was built to be a small backhoe from the start, say like something along the lines of a Kubota B-21?
Thanks, John

I was quoted $6800.00 for the bx-80 with sub frame. Its a nice hoe, but I decided to go with the kubota hoe and take advantage of the 0% financing they offer.
You might want to check into a MF hoe and see if it will fall under their 0-60mos financing.

If you trade up MF has a 0% for 60 months in place now. A 1533 with a 1580, or a 1540 & 1580 would be available at the 0% for 60 months.

Good luck

I'm happy with the 1533 I have now, no need to trade it in. I just need a backhoe so there probably are no financing deals for that.

If I go with the Woods backhoe do you think I'd need to go with the extra hydraulic pump? The dealer I talked to here seems to think that the hydraulics on the hoe would be too slow using the pump on the 1533 but they've never put one on a compact Massey, only New Hollands so they don't really have much to go by. The Woods tech I spoke with said most people don't use an additional pump on the 1500 series tractors.

I have the 1531 with the backhoe,I think it is the 1570, it digs down to 6 1/2 feet, your tractor might be able to take a bigger hoe, my hoe was 6900.00 and dealer installed it and I bought the unit as a TLB, my son-in-law borrowed it today,he loves it, I might not get it back. My backhoe has the subframe that runs up to the bottom of floor at pedals,it hooks on there and has pins at the rear. It has a wide swing up to the stabilizers to work both sides of the trench. Only thing I notice on mine the hoses are tight when stabilizers are fully retracted,I put sheathing on them incase of chafing on the backhoe frame. plowking

I have the 1575 backhoe, very satisfied, most used implement to date.
Driven from the tractor hydraulic, fast enough, very often I have to run the engine slower to be more precise when near obstacle that I dont want to damage.

JCS, My dealer quoted $7k installed with the additional power beyond package for the 1575 BH a year ago on my 1433...Still haven't done it :( and I'm sure its more $$$ now

Unless, the Woods cylinders are 1" in dia. larger, you won't need the extra pump. I have had two MF compacts one 33 hp, and one with 40 hp. Both had less gpm than you 1533 and they ran both backhoes fine. I never did need anymore gpm.

does anyone know if having dual rear remotes on my 1533 will interfere with the installation of a backhoe? It seems like I read something about that a couple of years ago but I can't remember what it said.

Rear remotes will not interfere.
