I owned a 1969 680ck B then had to buy a second for a parts machine. Truly amazing capabilities but I definitely spent more time working on it then running it.

The last time it broke down I was straddling a rock wall and trying to bury a dead dog. Multiple similar instances of it breaking down with a half finished project.

Arround here that's about all you can get for 5k.

I sold them and bought a bigger CUT and ZTR. Rent an excavator when needed. So much more productive.

If I really needed a full size TLB I would spend at least 12-15k or I would not do it. Just my opninion and limited experience.

I'm about to find out what a 9ft hoe can do on a bigger CUT. Hopefully I'm not disappointed.

The BH is one of the most used attachments on the farm next to sprayer.

Knee deep, not to scold, but, NEVER, EVER, be in a ditch over waist deep, less really, without shoring, and or tapered walls. If one of the side walls in your above pic had even begin to let go, it would be too late.
I spent over 20 years riding a fire engine, seen many a cave in. Always heard the same thing, "was only gonna be in there a second"

We'd much rather have you and your family here to post than reading about you in the paper!
Lecture over, nice tractor, I like the thumb, want one for my Ford.

Sadly our budget won't allow for a 7k backhoe even so we are stuck with cheaper ones but they seem to be decent machines around here. For us we are on all flatland and it will only be used occasionally so that helps some knowing we don't need a perfect backhoe

The first person I ever saw die died like that. He was a backhoe operator digging a sewer line ditch and of course I was one of the kids in the neighborhood watching. He went into the ditch and came out on a stretcher already dead. They couldn't dig him out fast enough.

That trench is a work of art! Well done.

Thank you sir. I cheated a little though, just kept the outrigger a certain distance from the building and kept it at that distance. Whatever works eh

Putting in a new 40ft culvert, was tough digging where the old road used to be. 1462771011643.jpg

Agree 150%!!!
After I graduated high school and before I went in the Navy, I worked as a plumber's helper/apprentice. Worked in a lot of sewer trenches...hated it!
I was buried hip deep once...and that was quite enough! Reckon I was lucky though...the trench was probably 7-8 feet deep and only part of the side wall caved in.

My neighbor was digging a well for his son's new home and when he placed the first tile in the hole the tool used for lifting the tiles in jammed. His son went down in to un-jam the tool and the well caved in on top of him, took several hours to dig his body out. A horrible mistake to live with forever after.

Nope, as dug, first time digging a trench that long. Was pretty happy with the results.

Ya, I would be happy with that too. Well done.

Thanks, still getting the BH dialed in, then the fun of taking it apart, painting it, and reassembling.

Did some field clearing today. Yanked about a dozen 'pebbles' and a couple of apple tree stumps. Had a good time despite the black flies and the wicked sunburn I got on my thighs (first outdoor shorts day this spring). This was my first real test of this hoe. I was satisfied. Certainly no comparison to the dearly departed Case 680 but acceptable and exceeded my worried expectations.

Good thing they were just pebbles. :)

Digging around the basement wall so it could be sealed. Actually, too big of a job for my little hoe.

Nothing happens faster than a ditch cave in.....If you want to go down it must be wider than it is deep...
