I have a Guilin backhoe that I've posted about before. The problem is the hydraulic fittings when the hoses fail. And the fact that there is very little parts available (ok, next to nothing). I was able to get 4 adapters to convert them over to American JIC37 1/2inch. But now the dealer I got them from does not even respond to email. And nobody else seems interested.

So heres what I've researched.
It would appear that the male fittings are 18mm at 1.5 pitch with a flat face and O-ring seal. Has anybody found anything to convert these other than the Chinese adapters that appear to be extremely rare? The typical internet based metric hydraulic fitting companys have nothing for this that I can tell.

I'm in the process of making my own adapters with swivel 3/8 NPT fittings on the ends which will allow for TSC and Bomgaar's type hoses to work.

I'm wondering if the current LW's backhoes have this same fitting on them. And if anyone has retrofitted theirs to take hose's that are widely available.

The backhoe itself seems to be very strong and can dig great. I have nasty clay gumbo to work in.

thx for any info..
Jim

Jim:

I seem to remember seeing a post a while back that someone found them or was able to get them, maybe try a search on the NYCTOA site and here for backhoe or hydraulic fittings.

if and when mine fail I'll end up cutting them off and welding on a std mail fitting so I can use std hoses... pull the hyd cylinder and just about any weld shop should be able to do this for you. now the valve blocks are a different story but could be done the same way at a higher cost per job I would imigine...

I had a difficult time finding adapters for the rear remotes for my KM454. I needed 22m x 1.5 female x 1/2 mpt. I emailed this company http://www.adaptall.com they put me in contact with a local vender that brought them in for me ... might be worth a try ... Scozz

Try http://www.fittingsandadapters.com/metric.html
Get the 18mmX1.5 thread male to 3/8 pipe female. Then order 3/8 pipe hoses and connectors from http://www.northerntool.com

You can also order 3/8 male to 1/2 male and change everything else to 1/2 pipe from Northern also (you will have to buy some 1/2 pipe female X 1/2 pipe female). Gets expensive though, when you have to buy 4 of everything.

Thanks for the info. What I need is a 18mm @ 1.5 p FEMALE with a flat surface end for the oring seal. All the connections on the cylinders are male 18mm @ 1.5 with a o-ring groove (containing the o ring) machine around the diameter of the hole.

I have a 18mm tap on order. I bought some 18mm 1.5 metric nuts and they seem to fit somewhat loose on the connections, but they do fit the treads fine. I bought several 3/8 NPT swivel connectors at Surplus Center when I was in Lincoln the other day. They were only 1.40 each. I will use these to make the new adapters.

I'm going to try and make some adapters. I have a lathe, welder. Right now I'm trying to not take off the cylinders and weld on new connections. If I'm going that route I will probably try and fit on a new valve body assembly. Since this one is so goofy but it does seem to work. The biggest problem with the valve body is the valve rod for the left-right pivot has some kind of built in pressure limiter on it. It is not very strong. I took it apart last summer to see if there was something that I could modify. When I get more time I'll play with it more. Mine is not like the valve body on the current LW's. But I think the hose connections may be the same.

thx
Jim

Update on the fittings.
I made 4 adapters using these from Surplus Center.
http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2005030306530510&item=914&catname=hydraulic

I drilled them out to 21/32 for the 18X1.5m tap. Then used JB weld to fill them to the apropriate depth. Then machined the JB Weld to a flat surface for the O-ring to mate against. And drilled out the centers.

So far I have installed 2 of these Rube Goldberg fittings. And tested the backhoe. They are on the push side of the main cylinder. They did not leak. Got to say that JB Weld is some really fantastic epoxy.
thx
Jim

I've been looking for female 18 x 1.5 parallel thread to male 1/2" parallel thread adapters, for my FEL control. I bought a replacement control to get rid of the jerky function of the Jinma FEL.

I called Adaptall and they told me they can custom make them for $14 US a piece. It's a bit pricey but I may resort to that solution.

I also called Maryland Metric and they said they would call me back but failed to do so.

It really is amazing that metric to SAE adapters aren't more readily available.

Thats probably not too out of line for the price of custom fittings. Considering I spent $65 for 2 custom hoses with some fittings to make a tilt cylinder. These are $1.50 each. Then probably .75 for the JB in each one. They are just a trial and error to fix mine.
thx

Truchaos ... I think I paid about $30. for the 4 adapters (22 x 1.5 x 1/2 mpt) that I bought for my rear remotes. They were stock! Pricy yes, but properly done and won't ever have to concern over it again .. Scozz

I consider my fittings "properly done" because they work and don't leak and I didn't pay alot for them.
