Backhoe backhoe questions

be carefull when powering the backhoe from the remotes as you know I am close to having a backhoe myself, and my dealer said it is better to power off of the loader valve with a power beyond kit and return the hydraulic directly back to oil supply as not through the remotes it does not cool the oil fast enough and will soon over heat your hyraulic oil.

Thanks Kully,

That's good to know. Not sure what I'm going to do now.

I'm putting a Long backhoe on my Kioti DK45S. Got a Woods subframe from my Kioti dealer & am adapting the 3pt hitch backhoe to it. Really just welding two 1/2 x 6 x 20 plates with 3 holes each onto the 3 pt frame. The backhoe was formerly on my Ford 801D on a subframe I welded up to hang from the FEL frame. The hydraulics were tied into the FEL via a diverter valve. Could only use the FEL or backhoe but it only takes 2 seconds to shift the diverter. I never needed to backhoe & FEL at the same time anyhow. Never had an overheating problem. I'm going with the Woods subframe for 2 reasons. #1 quick detach capability, #2 the resale of the backhoe will be increased because the right Woods subframe will fit it onto another tractor with just 6 bolts. Did have to make my own bracket for the Woods front of the DKS because Woods hasn't made one yet for the newer models. BTW I'm in Hampton Falls, not far from you ??

Hi MikeD74T,
I'm up in Farmington, not far at all. I remember seeing a Kioti dealer just over the Maine border on RT. 202 I think. I had asked the Kubota dealer what a subframe would cost for my tractor and said it won't matter with your tractor. He said the MX5000 CAT 1 and 2 hitch is beefy enough. I may ask the Kubota dealer again about a subframe for the tractor. At this point, I'm just planning on cutting off the homemade subframe, so I can use it sooner than later. I was kicking around the diverter valve idea. I have a link for a company called Surplus Hydraulics, that I've done business with before. I was poking around their website last night looking at what I'd need to make up a set of rear remotes. I'm still on the fence for the rear remotes.

Thanks,
Howard

This is the owners manual for the Woods subframe for your tractor. My Kioti dealer, Jon Parks in Lancaster, strongly suggested I not use the 3pt hitch. He's been in tractors for over 35 years, since high school. Apparently the hitch is strong enough but the tractor frame / castings may not be. What breaks, if anything, is the tractor bellhousing. It's not so much carrying the backhoe as it is transferring the forces when digging. I have on occasion picked up the front wheels of my Ford while backhoeing. The Woods subframes are not cheap, but are a real clean installation. Try Jon for a price, use my name. (his son's neighbor)
BTW The Maine dealer, Dick Batchelder, used to live in North Hampton and has considerable fame as a super modified stock car driver.

( I wonder if it would be easier and cheaper to just get a PTO pump and tank. Anyway, thanks Paul, for the response. I'm going to do more digging (for info. that is...).Howard )

When I bought my L3130 and Woods BH the price was about a wash between the PTO pump and remote, ~$650 either way. This was 2.5 years ago. I about fell over at the price of the remote.

Adding onto an exsiting remote is less expensive since you can just add to the block.

MikeD74T,
Thanks for the link to the Woods Manual for their subframe for my tractor. It was interesting to check it out. I noticed the subframe bracket mounts to the lower 3pt. hitch mounts on the tractor. That means I'll have to pull the 3pt. hitch to install the Woods subframe bracket. Since the used backhoe I just bought is a Kelly 7 1/2 foot model, I'll need to make or modify a bracket that connects to the backhoe, or does it connect to the 3pt. connections on the backhoe?

CTyler,
I didn't realize the PTO pump would be that expensive. I don't know what the guy used for hydraulic fluid in the backhoe I just bought and figured maybe I'd save some money and just get the PTO pump and not mix the backhoe hydraulic fluid with the new fluid in my new tractor.

The Woods frame mounts I installed do not interfere with the 3pt hitch at all. In fact the arms can stay on the tractor. Just pull 3 pins, set the outriggers & bucket, disconnect the hoses, & drive away. That took about an hour on my Ford with the homemade adapter. If you look at the backhoe end of the Woods subframe you'll see three 3/4" holes on each side. Since my Long backhoe was originally a 3pt hitch type I just welded on two matching plates. I think it makes the backhoe much more valuable because it will now fit any DK45S or any other tractor by getting a suitable Woods subframe. I've had previous inquiries about buying the Long because I also have a 580 Case backhoe. All wanted it for free because they had to adapt it.

The Woods "4 point hitch" subframe I got for my NH TC33D does not use the lower 3 point arm attach points. I leave my lower 3 point arms on all the time (I do have to remove the stabilizer bars).

You'll have to remove the parts specific to the 3 point hitch from your backhoe and make some kind of adaptor plate. I mounted a Woods 3 pt backhoe onto my Woods subframe. In this case it was easy... the "3 Pt" part of the backhoe just unbolted, and the subframe bolted right up to where the 3 pt mount parts came off. In your case, matching two different brands, I would imagine you'd have some modification to do.
