Last one, still tearing off roots exterior to the tap. I ran out of day so I partially covered the stump and will finish covering all the holes this weekend.
If you're wondering about getting a CUT backhoe, go for it. If you have any jobs like this, you'll be very happy you have one.
If I can do this with my little CK20 and a 6.5' backhoe, imagine if you have a larger tractor and BH! John

John nice job. Were you able to pull the stump up out of the hole?, or did you just loosen it up while you back filled with the spoils?

Bully, you must have missed this one in the thread. Thanks, John

Nice job John. One thing I didn't see any of is rocks. If it took you 10 hours with no rocks, here in New England multiply that by 5 or get a much bigger machine /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif The rock pike would be at leat as big as the stump adn they would all be interwoven with the stump roots.

Andy it's funny you posted this as I was thinking today how thankful I am that I don't have the rocks many members have posted they have had nightmares with!
I've never had a stump with so many feeders to break, and not only that, it appeared that there were a bunch of vertical roots that kept getting in the way of my digging. The 10 hours was for the monster, the others took only about 2 hours each, and they were about 1/2 the size. John

Nice job John!

I would like to have a backhoe, but a little to much $$$$. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif However I would like to see the new Kioti hoe for my machine in person. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I would like to see my dealer get one in. (Hint) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I do see a lot of water. Is that the water table or did it rain recently? I've worked stumps in bottoms like that and it seemed harder to get stumps out. I think the wet muck creates a suction on the taproot. Nice work with small equipment, John. I figure you'd be #$%& on wheels (or tracks) with a big hoe.

It hasn't rained for some time now. This man's property is very low at the back where I was working, and hold water for quite a while unless the temps are much higher.
I agree that I've had an easier time in dry ground!
I'd love to have a real big backhoe, I could have gotten that stump out in minutes instead of hours! John

It looks like it would have take close to an hour with my backhoe, most of it repostioning the hoe to get at all sides of the stump. That is with a 95HP turbo and a 24 inch bucket. Took about 5 minutes to dig a six foot deep hole for the neighbors St. Bernard.

The two parts of this sentence seem mutually exclusive or at least at odds with each other. Would you really want to be done in ten minutes?

And anyway, how could you justify a backhoe if you only use it for 10 minutes once in a while? (That's a joke, you're supposed to laugh.)

Thanks for the tutorial with photos. Very nice.
