Backhoe Thumb.

I'm looking for a mechanical thumb for my Massey Ferguson 1531 tractor,the hoe has a 24 inch bucket and digs down 6 1/2 feet. I have seen thumbs 18 to 21 inches long,available as a weld on or bolt on. I'm confused and thumb won't get used much except for setting rocks for rock walls. Thanks, plowking

Here's a couple of shots of my weld on, mechanical backhoe thumb from USA Attachments. They show you how to measure for a thumb here How to measure your machine for an excavator thumb and how to install here How to install an excavator thumb. I think I got their smallest thumb, 6x18. You need to make sure it is not too big for your backhoe otherwise you will have trouble folding it up to store.

Also you might want to make sure the "bite" is correct so the teeth on the thumb and bucket interlock or mesh.
