Backhoe valve block (not sure of it's correct name)

Thank you for reminding me of the proper term Steve the first one I did was one a Case 580B and the second one on a 580C. But it was a long time ago. No internet in toughs days for help so bought a manual for the B $120 it was very useful gave it to the fella that bought it and it's been trail and error ever since 1981.

Once I get the boom cylinder back on, I can pick the hoe up and swing it to the side. That will give me room to sit under there while taking those bottoms off.

The top section can be accessed from inside the cab.

The manual I have isn't an official manual and frankly, I don't think it goes back to the (older) serial number of my machine.

That said, there are comments in there about not swapping spools (thanks!). The copies the dealer gave me with the parts looks like it's soaked a bit of oil into the paper bag holding all the parts. Not sure if the wife would appreciate me scanning a page that is kind of oil soaked (very mild).

The manual I have showing a different shaped spool says there is a special tool to take something apart. I don't really know if I have that 'something' (not sure what it was, looked simply like part of a cylinder that held things together)

Ok, here's a question.

Forget stabilizers, I can live with them drifting down a bit since it's slow (and they never drift "up" when they are holding the machine up)

Anyways, if the hoe floats (slowly) to the LEFT and only the left..... would you expect it to be the right or left spool?

Not sure of the words, what I mean by that is, when you push the stick left, it (presumably) pushes the left item down and raises the right side. Swing to the right and it does the opposite.

If one of those spools is stuck or chipped, would you look first for the one that pushes down or raises up (as stick is moved left)?

I'm pretty sure you only have ONE spool for swing - off center one direction pushes on one swing cylinder and pulls on the other - off center the OTHER direction does just the opposite.

IF you can, find the hose that would have to PUSH in order to move the boom the direction it drifts BACK from (hope that made sense) - follow that hose back to the control valves and look for a check valve, possibly sitting outboard of the control valve. If that check valve isn't "checking" properly, it would let fluid leak back thru the control valve instead of KEEPING the "push" cylinder from slacking off.

Sorry if that's not very clear, been grinding, welding, drilling and swearing at parts & pieces since 7 this morning trying to get the hydraulic sickle bar mated up to my hoe so I can get some of the vegetation back in control around here - check out what I mean here -

I'm hoping these things work the way I want 'em to, if so the cut stuff will just land either on the forks or in the brush bucket so I won't have to pick everything up the hard way... Steve

I did not catch what the concern is. My stabilizers will drift down, my excavator if not level will rotate on its turn table, my 3pth hitches will drift to the ground. As long as everything works when I am using it, I am not going to mess around. When I park my backhoe where I don't want the stabilizers to droop onto anything I will put a strap between them to hold them in place.

By the way my backhoe boom and stabilizers would drift down when the spool valve was new, the tractor it was on had a weak hydraulic system with a 3pth that would drift down in a few hours. I just figured it was the tractor system allowing things to drift down. This might mean its not your vavle body?

If something were to drift over say.... 1 or 5 hours, that is one thing. When on the other hand, it will drift inside of 60 seconds.... (and the machine is 30 years old), I'm willing to think something else is going on.

The hoe will swing like that ONLY to the left (as from sitting in the seat facing backwards). It will hardly drift at all to the right.

When driving on the land (I live on a farm) I have created a habit of driving with one arm reaching back to correct the swing every now & then, especially if I'm traversing a slope or something that will put gravity on the backhoe & help pull it to its left.
