i wish i had the time and u had the patience to listen to every one of my embelishments on the above post. but i guess i will jusy say that i get damm sick and tired of bleeding hearts telling me (indirectly) that my sucess or ability to enjoy the nicer things in life is somehow reason that some folks in the world are deprived. have to take another blood pressure pil, and go out and look at my nice orange tractor, that always calms me down./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Liberal. Conservative. What do they mean anymore? I suppose I'm somewhat "liberal" by some definitions, but I either have no problem with, or actually agree with many of the sentiments expressed in the post. It gets a little old when some of the same old generalizations are repeated. BTW, Gates bought DOS, and his invention of Windows is open to discussion, but he is a heck of an entrepeneur, so he gets lots of my money. And no one who actually heard what Gore said about the internet believes he claimed to invent it. Sure sounds good, though, doesn't it? And, while I'm at it, they's more of us'ns than you'uns no matter how you want to count the votes, but G.W. won the election and Al eventually gave up. Would you have been any quicker to do so under the circumstances? Why do so many of these things get back to this stuff? Is this fun, or just off topic?

This was his description of himself during the interview...not me assigning a label to him. Of course I too might be liberal if no matter what the govt wanted to confiscate from me I was still wealthy I suppose. Besides, this is all pretty tame compared to the orange, green , blue thing going on in the other threads./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I know it has been mentioned before, but www.snopes.com is a great place to check out the origins of such quotes. Apparently this quote doesn't belong to either Ted Nugent or George Carlin.

...slightly different version of this story, attributed to George Carlin...

I'd love to hear George Carlin's version, slightly more colorful, never boring, nor does he seem to mince any words... seems to explain life slightly differently than most... /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Chuck,
Actually Gore is on tape saying that he created the internet. It has been heard and seen by millions. Some say he meant it that he created the internet and others say that he only meant it out of context in that he had created the internet in a bolder form for all people to enjoy by legislation, of which he introduced little. Either way it's not the truth.

The real truth about the Internet is that it started as a Department of Defense project.

Don't think that Mr. Gore would like to agree to that one!!

DARPA wasn't it?

I don't think he'd have any problem with that. His whole point all along was that while he was in the senate he strongly supported the legislation that funded creation of the network that eventually became what we now call the internet. As boondoggles go that one came out OK.

DARPA Net Actually. Defense Advance Research Project-1965 or so I think. It expanded to include Educational Instituions and was a text based system until the guy who started NetScape invented what we see now - The Modern Internet GUI (Graphical User Interface). That would put the Internet start date about the time Al Gore was being protected in rear echelon duty as a candy ass politicians son in Vietnam.

Just the facts. Whether it was Ted or George, that's a good don't tread on me document.
