Its bear season alright.Woke up at 12am to a loud noise and the dog a barking, nothing to unusual the free range horses are always getting into things. I grabed my mag-light and went to inspect. Next thing i saw was a BIG brown flash running slowly.... HuH, thats no horse. I spotted my mag on him... he was just sitting there still, 25 yards away for maybe 40 seconds or so.....dog barking the whole time not to far behind. The dog was just as confused as I. The bear was just hanging out!

Let me tell ya we gots lots of bears and lions up here and they always run at first bark and chase. By the time I get up and out their gone or running away!
most the time they wait till I am gone to come reap havoc..kind of like their watching and waiting till i pull out.

Sooo.. i was telling my neighbor up the road to watch out for Smokey hes a brave one when he tells me he saw the D.F.G (dept of fish and game)big box truck roll down the road the other day! Looks like we just got a fresh batch of relocated problem bears dropped off! Great for the people and parks they were causing problems for but bad for us as well.

Some how DFG thinks these bears will be rehabilitated and go out into the great wild and be free again...AHH............................sounds tooo good.
these bears just wonder back down the road or through the forest hunting for that oh so good human scent, ahh...................... compost, recycling, gardens, fruit, dog food, coolers, refridgeraters, even BEER! they want the Goods they don't want to forage on grasses and berries after tasting the good life! I can't blame them, what animal wouldn't? I Do

I do blame the DFG and others who ditch their problem animals out here weither its a wolf dog, a bad dog, a snake or what ever you have it they just end up causing trouble and get put down anyhow.

With that said I'll be waiting tonite for MR smokey hopefully he will come when im home. I just hate it when they come when your gone, bust through the front door and crash out the back after they just tore the kitchen apart for a block of Cheese and some Mayo. Last year one came in and stole some Rib's and tin canned the refridgerator! If you've never had your fridge tin canned your not missing anything Trust Me.

you hear that? Gotta Go............

Sounds like you need an intervention there. Say a Remington 700??

I heard awhile ago that they stoped relocating bears because of all the problems it created, the money it cost and the total failure of the results. Relocated animals have an extremely high mortality rate, they continue to cause the same problems the caused them to be relocated and it's extremely expensive.

There was a time when the bears in Yosemite were being relocated to the Tehama Wilderness area. Come hunting season, those were the first bears killed because they didn't have any fear of humans. They'd just walk out in the open and get shot. This was such common knowledge that people were actually keeping track of where the bears were let go and how many.

I can's say for certain with bears, but I do know for a fact the the DFG will publicy state that they've relocated deer and actually kill them. It's called public relations. Tell the people what they want to hear and then take care of the problem.

Interesting that they would relocate them to an area with people living when there's so many Wilderness areas and National Forest locations that are extremly remote.

A bear that doesn't run away and isn't afraid of you is the most dangerous thing out there. Do what you need to, because if you don't, the odds are that you'll regret it.

Good luck,
Eddie

Be sure you have a good case before you do something that could get you in ALOT of trouble. I had a Bear that continually chased my horse and I am certain was trying to get her down and kill her. I finally had mr. 30.06 waiting by the door one morning when my wife yelled the bear was chasing the horse !!!
I let one single round fly and the bear went down. I did the right thing ( atleast i thought at the time) and called the Dept. of natural resource Police.
I was questioned 4 seperate times and questioned my they wife 2 seperate times when I wasn't home. They tried to make an example out of me. It was turned over to the states attorney and thankfully the case was dropped for lack of evidence.
I then told them I will NEVER call them about my bear problem again.
Since that time I have had the DNR Game Wardens at my farm evey single hunting season checking me left and right.
I guess i should have just let my registered morgan become this bears dinner. That is pretty much what they wanted me to do.

I cannot help myself - but isn't it something what one would expect in People's Republic of Maryland? :D

We lived there few years but never liked MD - moved to Virginia 4 years ago and never looked back.

It is getting pretty bad. Fortunatley I live in Western Md.
To make matters worse, I called the DNR a ton of times telling them they need to come trap this bear and they blew me off. They said " sir, it is just unheard of for a bear to chase a horse". Well, I guess we all can't be "Bearologists" but I know what that bear was trying to do and it wasn't good for my horses health.

Western Maryland is beautiful. I took few trips round there jeepin':)
I remember last fall the 8 year old girl shot a bear in Western Maryland (afaik) - quite a shock for some liberals I am forced to work with:)

Oh well, thats life:)

thatwas about 10 miles from my farm. It has been rumored that dad did everything but pull the prigger. But still quite a feat for an 8 yr. old.
