Bad Boy ZTR at TSC

I realize I've said it before, but I gotta move!

I called my three local TSC's and not only did they not have a single BB in stock, none of them even knew anything about it! Two of the managers had never heard of Bad Boy Mowers.

I've heard that because BB is in the TSC system, I could have them order one, but I have yet to follow-up on that. Despite that I wouldn't have local support, I'm seriously considering this option as the BB looks like the most bang for the buck!

No Bad Boy dealers at all in Pa - and like you, nothing at TSC.
Myself, I wouldn't buy one from TSC anyway - dealer support is very important when buying equipment like this.....
Oh well, have to stick with my Deere stuff for now.

The BB looks more repairable than most for those that do their own repairs. Looks like they used many off the shelf items in construction like pillow block bearings for deck support and such. Not that it looks easy to wear out or break
It really impresses me and makes the rest of the ZTR's there look puny.

Briggs and Stratton engine and sealed bearings on the deck do not make a commercial mower.
For 5K it is a good enough homeowner model, but don't put it to the test as with a REAL bad boy with a kaw or kohler engine. It won't hold up.
A commercial Bad Boy in the 60" range goes for around $6,500.00 as do all the others (Toro, JohnDeere, Scag, Exmark etc.....)I looked at here in the KC metro area. Even with a good motor, I still don't like the sealed bearings.

I looked at them. The thing I noticed was the motor looked like it stuck out a long way. I was thinking that you might have to worry about hitting the rear of the mower turning in tight spots.
Anybody mowed with one to know if that is a valid concern or not?

I'm with Dave on this one. Sealed bearings and Briggs don't make it. Go buy a JD-Box store Z and bleed green for bearing replacement in a few years. The TSC Bad Boy is no better than the JD.

Personally, I have a Cub 60" Tank. Twin fuel tanks, loaded with zerk fittings, tach, comfortable seat and built like a 'tank'. It had a Kawasaki, though right now, I'd prefer a Briggs. At 26 hours, the Kawasaki threw an alternator magnet under the flywheel and ate the stator. So much for Japanese quality control. Poor epoxy adhesion. Cub's warranting it though. They should.

Any ZTR mower that weighs in at nearly 800 pounds is stout. Cub uses Hydro-Gear pumps, the industry leader in hydrostatic propulsion.

I have to say, it is very, VERY rare I hear of a problem with a new Kawasaki engine. But it can happen with anything. I had a friend who bought a new Honda motorcycle in the late 1980's, and about a minute after getting off of it in a parking garage on a hot summer day it just burst in to flames. Now that was interesting!

It isn't just a briggs, it is a Vanguard which is their commercial engine and is right there with the Kaw and I hear better than the Kohler. All who you ask though.

As for sealed bearings, Hustler puts them in their units and they are one of the best ZTRs you can purchase. Lots of Commercial mowers use Hustler. The Bad Boy uses 1/4 inch steel for the deck. MAN! I would like to know what they weigh. My hustler Mini Z weighs about 960 lbs.

I agree for that money you can buy a unit that is proven. A lot of steel does not alway guarantee quality. There are a lot of things to consider on a ZTR that will stand the test of time. I wouldn't buy one for the fact... where would you get warranty work done? TSC? HEE HEE HEE!

The Badboy ZTR is an outstanding mower but most in this price range are. I have used them and nothing bad to say. I just purchased a big comm ZTR but went with a Country clipper with a joy stick....lows the twin hicks away in operator fatigue factor. The CC has a model in the price are you are looking at. Always buy from a dealer if at all possible....spend a little more up front but saves you a bunch in the long run as the dealer will warranty many things in the gray area if you buy from him versus not if simply brought into him for warranty work.....or at least mine will.

Not necessarily. The Craftsman ZTRs (residential/homeowner design) are 775#s. Most of that is a massive cast-iron front axle. They went from steel box tube in 2006 to the cast and raised the weight about 200#s.

Swisher makes a decent ZTR that is decently built for the price. 60" welded deck, 26HP v-twin, and Eaton transmissions for $3999.
