Jim would this be a good time to visit the Blue River country ? Temperature cooler and maybe the dogs would enjoy running around among the trees.
May not be a good time to build cooking fires. ( I have a old Coleman camp stove supposed to of been used by Teddy Roosevelt group while he was traveling the area. ) To start a National Forrest when he found 3 trees with in a days journey of each tree.

Your old mule may still be in the area waiting for your return.

Might even find the Lost Dutchman mine the place never has been discovered and I'm fairly sure it is not on Camelback Mt.

Just suggestion of getting out of the doldrums of living a Hermits life on the desert.

Wouldn't suggest coming to Okla., Texas or Ark. at this time the tornado warnings are continuous and interrupts the tv programming.
Our power was off most of the afternoon due to lightening hit our power transformer 30 feet from the house. Ozone smell still lingering around. (Does this cause cancer in Calif. also)?

Good test for the Onan s/b generator. It worked as planned.

Dog acts like a leash it attached to my left ankle. wants to stay inside the house tonight.
It would be alright except he snorers worse the I and wife would have a problem with it.
.
Of course do what ever you like doing just locate a shady location with a swamp cooler running full blast

Hi folks,
Tried to post yesterday, when the server went down.

Hardly anything in the White Mountains or on Blue River that I would even find near the same as when I was there. Pretty sure most everyone I knew is dead by now. Mules were about my age at the time, they live 30 / 35 years, but all dead mow.

Not much the same as the old days. While I was there logging was opened up & it ruined a lot of the trout streams & caused severe erosion.

Beaver Head Lodge was destroyed & turned in just a grassy flat. I think the same happened to Hannigian Meadows, but not sure. I went there a little over 15 years ago in a motor home. ***** getting it out of the canyon, Switch backs so tight, almost off the road on 1 side & inner rear wheels cutting across on the inside.

BLM & Forrest service went through & tried to erase everything man made. A little log cabin at P Bar Lake was saved, by taking it apart & moving down on Blue
River.

Actually I am pretty happy here, just me & the dogs or dog. Would never go to town if I did not have to. Riley & dog just go & come as the please. Some day 1 or both of them will fail to return. Dog is often gone for a few days. I give him up & then he shows up. May try 1 more time to fix the fence so they can not get thorough it. Pile gravel & rock on the out side where I can, stake down their current exit & put heavy stuff on the inside.

Time for breakfast pork chop & eggs sounds good at the moment. Course the dogs will want their share. They think that is the whole meal.

More later,
Jim

At the last house someone had laid down chicken wire at the base of the fence and plastered it with an inch or two of concrete. Stopped the dog diggin' in a hurry, and probably not that hard or expensive to do, especially if you've got your own mixer and can order in sand and morter.

Hope you enjoyed your chop'n'eggs

My dog yard has a 1 foot strip of concrete, mostly on the dog side. I used scrap 1 3/8 top rail pieces for the form. A 60lb bag would do about 4 feet. No dig-outs in around 25 years.

I've also seen wire mesh laid flat inside the fence and staked down to stop digging.

Thanks for the ideas on dog proofing the fence.

Sort of the plan I had where the current digging is going on. Cement curbs, like those in parking lots. may put chicken wire under them.
With a yard over 1 & 1.5 acres & some that can not really be reached, no way to ever gt it all done.

At last getting some quail families are bringing in their baby's. Fun to watch the little guys. At 1 or 2 days old they can fly pretty well.
Hard to count as they never stand still. Maybe a dozen or so in each family

All though temps are reaching high 80's even low 90's, wind from the south makes it feel cold out side.
Lots of clouds & overcast, but very little rain possibles.

Well I have 3 dogs. At least I did when I came in a couple of hours ago.

Yesterday I put parking lot curbs over almost 10' of fence, 2 deep a few inches apart.

Riley & dog were both out this AM. My thinking "If they are out they can stay out or come to the gate.

I poured course, sharp rock & gravel down about 80" of fence this AM. Some on both sides.
May do a little more later on. ??? It's about a 1/4 mile each way for 1/3 of a yard of gravel.

Mother Bobby & I went up the the market close by to get some beer. As we left Riley showed up inside the fence.
When we got back & went around the house there was Dog.

Its Beer 30 - More later,
Jim

A good fence should keep them in if you stay after it. The chicken or hog wire idea mentioned laying on the ground or slightly buried towards the inside of the fence is a good idea. Maybe tacked 1/2 onto the fence and 1/2 on the ground in an L. Or take in older dogs that just want to stay home and lay around.

I have used this method for digging dogs and it works. I used chicken wire.

Guess its time for an update - much has happened (Too Much).

Was going to post a few pictures, computer sure does hid a lot of them.
Kirbys Steps.jpg - Ice crystals truck1.jpg -
All I can find right now.

I thin Dog & Riley stayed in 3 or 4 days. Then went out the drain ditch that I had put a heavy screen over with rock on top of it.
Must have taken lots of digging???

I'm getting tired of being a pit stop, they come home & eat, get water & sleep. At this point should they get out & never come back I will not shed a tear.

I just looked out the window Dog & Riley just walked by. Looks like they left again??

Noise woke me up last night, Grandson, appeared about 2AM. Took taxi to end of pavement & walked about 2 miles
Damm was really enjoying being alone.
Town today, 100LBs of dog food, 4 30packs of beer & Lots of groceries. need lots as grandson eats much more than I do.

Gas has gone from 1.99 to 2.45 in just a few (3 /4 ??)

More pictures if I can find them.
Later
Jim
